That looks like the bottom part of the rotation and the fastening clip looks to be facing backwards...
The Closed end should be pointed toward rotation...

Now you made me have to stop and think how I got it into position to take the pic.
I had to move the bike forward, which means the chain rotated counterclockwise. So yes, I believe the closed end of the Masterlink Clip (thanks, btw, for providing me with the right term) is indeed facing the rotation of the chain.
Unless, I have over-thought this and now have myself confused.
