Default Engine Guard Chaps??????

What do yall think about Engine guard chaps? I have been thinking of making some, they are just too pricey for my taste! Well the best price I found was $80+ I think I can make a set for each bike for $30 or less! The sewing is the easy part, but I hate to go through the motions if they are not any good at blocking wind! If you do not know what I am talking about, here is a link to Sage Brush designs, they are pretty cool looking, I am more concerned with function.
And if you have them, are they made from REAL leather or Synthetic leather(Vinyl)? I can get the Vinyl for $11/yard, 1.5 yards per bike at the most!

I may start on this Sunday after church so please let me know your Opinions on them!

I'll take one set without the studs, and I'd like some flap pockets as well...LOL

If you do choose to make your own please show us the pics when you're done..
and then I'll place my order( remember I was first in line)
for the past 30 years all my bikes had some type of "lowers" or Hwy bar chaps...for cold weather riding they do make a warm difference...you will still get a slight up draft and some wind but not as bad...good luck

I have a set but I forget where from. Mine are actual leather, and they work GREAT! Keep the wind off my legs and feet, really help extend the riding season. Last year I rode every month during the winter with the chaps ... granted it was a milder winter, but its still Michigan!

I noticed that the chaps are a little different on each side, primarily due to the way the crash bars mount on the bottom, i.e., around the brake vs the shifter.

You can see them in this pic and how they give great coverage of your lower legs.

hey coop give Jeff a call, don't know if he has pattern yet for the vtx, but his prices are great, made a tank bib for my Sabre, nice, and for what he charged I could not have made it, he does use marine grade vinyl, but I like the looks of it.

I use them year round. In the Winter they break the chilled breeze. In the Summer they keep my bare legs from getting sand blasted and from road spray, bugs and debris.

I'm with you. I decided they are over priced for what you get, so I made my own highway bar chaps. I used Cordura with snaps t hold them on. I carry them folded up in the bottom of my saddlebag. I never thought I'd use them until we ended up riding in the rain all day while on a trip out west (who wants to sit in a motel room all day)
They do work well for keeping the rain/cold off my boots and lower legs.
My plan is to make a set out of leather I bought from a fabric store - the kind used to cover seats. I bought the thicker stuff so it should be plenty strong. I'm also thinking of using Velcro to hold them on instead of snaps. The new 3M type is as strong as snaps and will work perfect.
No photo of them just yet.
