Default Curious....

My uncle has a Kawasaki Vulcan 750 dohc 8 valve (mid 90's model) and I have a Shadow Sabre vt1100 ('06). Our bikes are about equal in acceleration with his being even a bit quicker as we accelerate in top gear. Does that seem right to you? All I can think is that maybe my bike weighs more (we weigh about the same), or perhaps mine has more drag due to a higher windshield. Not that I really care, but I figured an 1100 should walk a 750.

Honda builds reliable bikes but they them to keep them tame. I'm sure there's more potential for hp that doesn't get used.

I wonder about weight too. I imagine it's a good bit lighter.

Yes honda gimps the bikes lol If you compare the 80's shadow to the current one the VT700 has much more power than the newer VT1100, wish they didn't do that but it is what it is.

My personal recollection moving from a Vulcan 750 to a VT1100 is that if that Vulcan isn't leaving you in the dust-off the line and beyond-it aint tuned right.

My '92 Vulcan would and could eat my Spirit 1100 alive. If it wasn't so small (the Vulcan) and inadequate for two-up riding, I would still have it. Absolutely "fun" bike to ride and push hard.

Just my two bones...

My uncle is 77 yrs old and probably didnt push it to red line and bang shift it. He hauled it away from a light though and I only seemed to match him. When I told him that he suggested a top gear roll on. I matched him up until his bike found the power band, then he started to pull away.

That's to be expected. I love the Shadows for cruising, but if you want more power and speed, you'll need to get a Magna or something with a bit more bite.

I don't mind at all. I just thought it was curious that a 750 could match and even out pull an 1100. I had no idea that Honda had castrated the vt1100 like that.
