I just have to give out a big I'm sorry to all that I recommended Grip Puppies to. Just under 2 years, packed in the shade or inside all the time and hands covering them when riding of course they have gotten hard and the left one started a very small tear this week and by the time I got home it was torn half way across, not very good compared to all the reviews I read and how great they were up to just a couple weeks ago. Just like that went from great to junk. No slow wear just bam, junk!
Thanks for the update. I searched for them, but couldn't quite make a decision and never ordered them. I'm having a hard time finding padded gloves that are affordable. Might as well get nice new grips if I'm going to have to spend the kind of money I'm seeing for gloves.
ISO's! Using the same set for 8yrs./two bikes and 48,000 mi. no wear and the rubber insets can be replaced if needed. My hands/wrist best buddy along with the standard Throttle Boss assist. Nuff said.
Mmmmm.. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I wasn't expecting them to last forever - most things don't these days.. Two years of steady use isn't too bad either.. My calculator tells me about twenty-two cents a week.. Not hideous ..
Thanks for understanding, I know you just bought 2 pair. Maybe in the cooler weather you have they will last longer but then again I think you put on a lot more miles than I do!
I'm thinking we may have to give you a time out for passing off bad info LOL It is odd to have them go bad at all I would think. I have had grips wear out but never tear. Even on my dirt bikes. On the up side. Now you get to get another new item for your bike. That always makes me feel better
I don't know where the per week came in but with shipping and lasting 23 months, I got them for 1.30 a month. Now I did get straight A's in every math course I took and I took the most advanced offered in hight scoop plus shop math in collage and calculus, but that was all almost 40 years ago!
I hear ya'. I was taking self-paced advanced Calculus BC at UT Knoxville nearly 40 years ago. I remember finding the area beneath a sine wave. Nowadays, I'm like: what's a sine wave, how does one go about dividing fractions, what's the quadratic equation, etc.? Hey, at least I can still add 2 and 2 together. :frown2:
Ted.. He's a very naughty bear, though, Dave.. Might not be your cup of tea. I wouldn't put money on it.. Still Perhaps the finest actor in Hollywood today.
I had them when I had Iso Grips on my Aero, and they do work.. They just soak up some of the handlebar buzz.. Not so much any rattling and shaking associated with square wheels or an unbalanced wheel.. They do help though.
Your bars might have weights spot-welded into the bar ends already? Mine did, but I drilled mine out to install wiring for heating elements under the grips.
Have weighted bar ends on my Tiger too.. They do help with buzz.
Have also heard that lead shot filled bars or sand filled bars will do the same thing.
Why so much vibration is my question. Your bike is new and not a HD, I can't see why it would shake so much.
I never needed any weighted ends, but I have heard they help.
I have what is called Reynauds, what happens is any cold or any vibration of any amount can cause the blood vessels to close down in my toes and fingers. The second last long ride I did with figerless gloves mad my middle finger go numb at the tip for 2 days, fist time that's happened so I figured it was because of all the speed changes in that trip with uneven vibration to my hand and all going to the finger tips also holding the clutch lever and getting vibration from it. So I went and did it again 2 days later with full gloves plus making sure I let go of the clutch every time, no numbness. I have to use light guitar picks or halfway through a set I'll start dropping picks because I can't feel the pick because of numness. So what others may not even feel I am very sensitive too. That is one of the reasons I knew the grip puppies were going bad because I was feeling numbness so I know the little bit of vibration there was getting to my fingers. I know it's not the bike because either set of pegs I used during that time didn't bother my feet at all and they all feel it together at the same rate.
So short answer is I'm supper sensitive to any vibration and don't want to loose control of the bike because I can't feel the brake or clutch handles.
Will have to try to do that. I know Eddie B personally, and ridden with him just around town a couple times. Great guy! Awesome testimony, as you said, and an impressivelyeffective prison ministry! Been to his house a few times on the south side of town, and helped him with his "fan mail" a couple times, too. :grin2: How do you know Eddie B?
Yeah, well, it's kinda hard to have a "live band" when you're the one playing most of the instruments AND singing too, like Eddie B does. Sometimes he gets "help", though, from "backup" singers and instrumentalists, but he does a lot of his music all by himself. Still, good music!
Yeah Michael English is a good one. He used to have a live band too but just couldn't afford to pay all the travel expenses. So he just does the backing track too.
Good to know on the end weights. I want to get the ones with throttle lock. But also want to keep my throttle assist.
I got both weights today and already have a cramp buster which has worked great so far and should be even better now with more room for it with the weights adding length for it. 99 percent of my riding is constant speed changes so I don't think a lock would be practicle. Even if I have to go into ABQ it's all but all up and down hills so a lock wouldn't work. I thought about it but the rest of the cramp buster is perfect for my type of riding. I thought about the thottle boss but that mounts inside the end weight so doesn't give full romm for a good grip when not using it.
Be prepared Dave, the slide over cramp busters don't really work too good on kury grips. The grips are much larger diameter and don't hardly fit. The one I had worked until I wanted to adjust it, then it snapped. I found a Kuryakin one at local HD shop CHEAPER THAN ANYWHERE online $17, it worked great! Maybe yours will work.
They had 2 styles of Cramp Busters and 2 sizes of each, I got the large one in the large size and it fits over the grip puppies over the regular grips which is pretty big and come with a rubber like wid ring to go over the grip if it slips. I got the weighted ends and they aren't any bigger than the way I have it now so with the rubber piece on it the Buster should fit right on it without a problem. I'll try the fit in a little bit when I go out to the shed, I'll bring the buster in and put the rubber piece on and see how it fits and holds. I'll be able to tell by that. If not I'll just order the other one right away because the grips probably won't be here til next week now anyway but with the ends here and that's where I'll be using the buster I'll know for sure if it will work today.
Like Coop says.. Iso grips are thick and uneven, two things that might work against slip-on piece of plastic..
Had one of these on my Aero (but in chrome)
About 20 bucks (or less).. They sandwich between the end of your grip, and the grip's end cap (or bar weight) using the same mounting screws, and it's position is slightly adjustable. Easy to just rest your paw on the throttle then, and zip down the road.. It did the job!
Yes, I have my eye on that and one other version they make that loos just a little less intrusive and I found them for $17 either way with free shipping. The cramp buster has a rubber like piece that will fit perfect over the end weight which will put it more out of the way if I'm not using it so hopefully that will hold it on there good if not I'll be ordering one of the others above. The only thing is there isn't as much a dust mentioned and I found with the few rides I did with the cramp buster already is I need to adjust it for the different speed zones I ride through where as the one made for it is a compromise by setting it where it will work in some situations but not all or at least not holding the same wrist angle for each speed. I have a long stretch of 35 mph, one of 30 mph and one of 25, then a long scoop zone of 20 mph. Those and the highway are the only place I'll need it and each is different. The 20 and 35 are about the closest because they are in different gears so the position is about the same. Main thing is I want to be able to have the same position in all cases so I don't defeat the purpose and get cramps from holding my wrist at a weird angle. If it was all freeway it would be great, one position.
That's how I ride!:grin2:
