Just wanted to give a shout-out to Avon grips. I bought and installed some of the Air Cushion heated grips back in January 2016. In August, on the ride home from work, the right grip came on for no discernible reason. The switch was in the off position, but the "high" LED light was illuminated. Changing the position of the switch made no difference. I ended up having to gear down to neutral, turn the ignition off, then back on, and restart the bike, all while rolling at 35mph. After that, the grip was off, and switching from off, to low, to high would activate the grips at the appropriate level.
Weird, I know. The grips are wired to switched 12Vac in the headlight bucket, grounded to a ground in the bucket from the switch itself, and the ground wires from the grips are grounded to the blue ground from the switch, per the diagram included with the instructions.
Well, two weeks ago, it was chilly enough riding home at night to turn the grips on. Unfortunately, the left grip did not work. I checked for continuity in the grip wires and got nothing. All the rest of the wires checked out for power and continuity, so I suspected that the heating element in the grip had gone bad. I contacted JP Cycles (where I bought the grips from), but they only have a 120 day warranty. I then contacted Avon over the phone, and when I explained what happened, they sent me a replacement grip, no questions asked!
I installed the replacement grip yesterday and re-soldered all the wires, and so far both grips work like a champ. Hands-down the best customer service that I have ever gotten!
