Exhaust gasket question

Okay, got my copper gaskets to put stock pipes back on my bike. My question, they are copper on one side with a little gasket material showing on the other side. Which way do they go? Thanks.

Where did you get the gaskets? I've only used Honda genuine, and there's overlap of the copper sheath on one side, no fiber showing.

Probably doesn't matter much, but I would put the fiber gap toward the cylinder head, the recessed head bore provides a larger "target" for the gap, and the gasket is centered in the head bore. The pipe is a little bit "sloppy" in the head bore, so you won't chance the pipe face "missing" the slight gap in the gasket.

I would put the side with the gasket material to the motor side. I dont think it really matters . Mine were just brass no material. Just make sure to tighten them up. Ride for a while then retighten them.

I just recently put the same gaskets in and put the the fiber side towards the cylinder head. No reason, just seemed the logical way to do it. Also, do check the bolts after riding for a while as others have said. The last time I changed pipes I didn't do that right away and when I did they were very loose. Suprizingly it ran much better after new gaskets and retightening!
