Kelly Blue Book - Motorcycle Book Value

Has anyone ever looked at this?

http://www.kbb.com/motorcycle/ I checked it out for the first time tonight.

They have 2 prices...retail...which you would expect as a starting point in negotiations with a dealer, and trade in value.

Do you think the prices are accurate? They seem realistic to me, but I notice a lot of the asking prices, particularly for Harley Davidson motorcycles, are a lot higher. Is this people not being realistic, wishful thinking, or people asking a lot more than they would take?

Where do you think the price in a private party sale would be? Probably closer to trade in than retail I would think? After all, dealer would stand behind it and offer a warranty.

Blue book probably doesn't account for accessories. Bikes are generally much more accessorized and modded more than autos & trucks.

Dealers don't necessarily give warranties on used bikes.

Should give you a good start point though.

I believe they are priced low as well, especially for our market.

That's surprising. Most of the Moco dealerships around here use NADA, and I recently asked (out of curiosuity) what the Softail was worth on trade. They told me 9500. And that was if I stripped all of the acces off of it.

This whole thing is odd. I've checked KBB for Japanese and Italian bikes and found that KBB is well above the current market.

But KBB is low for Harleys? I don't get that at all.

I always thought KBB was high also . just checked my bike against NADA and yes, KBB is way low.
