86 Shadow VT500 seat

I just got a 1986 honda shadow vt500. I really dont like the stock seat with the built in sissybar. Does anyone have any ideas on how to modify this seat as I am unemployed and money is hard tight?

I have a '83 VT750C and feel the same way. I bought off eBay a Spirit seat. And with a mods to the pan will have a more modern looking bike.

I'd love to hear about the modifications you had to make as well as the seat you went with. On another note if your seat is in good shape I might want to buy it. my 83 shadow 750 build came with a pretty busted up seat...

I bought a 2006 Spirit seat. I have not installed it yet, but the center of the base protrudes. It's platic so easy to cut and flatten. the front hook needs to be cut and repostioned. Expoxy and pop rivets ought to take short work of it. When I do it I'll post some pics and I would be happy to sell you my origianl seat - both rider and passenger are in good shape.

Im going to look into the option of a seat cover and see if that would work well for me however if your seat is in good condition both front and back... that might make the most sense. Ill keep in touch

The '83-'84 VT500C had a much smaller sissy bar. You can find a '83-'84 seat and sissy bar on eBay and do a swap. I've not heard that any otehr seat will work without major modifications.
