Default Buffeting....I finally know what it means.

So I got the correct parts from Slipstreamer this week and installed the Hellfire windshield. I took it for a ride on Saturday and all was fine until I hit about 65mph. It beat the hell out of my head. That was with the windshield in the down position. So I repositioned it and tried again. This time about half way, same issue. So I moved it all the way up, and the shake from the bike was gone at speed, but I still feel like a bobble head.

So I pulled it off. I guess the trade is either wind on your chest or your head shaking.

Has anyone else had this issue, if so, how did you correct it?

Had it, still have it (not as bad...), hate it with a passion. Gets to the point of almost giving me a headache as the slapping on my helmet gets so bad at highway speed. Can't wait till spring when I won't be riding in less than 50 degree weather.

I have to go for a few minutes (dinner on the table...), but I'll be back to elaborate a bit more.

sorry to post and run...

I've got a Memphis Shades "Big Shot" on my 1100 Spirit.
I added a light bar and lowers. That eliminated it for me in most situations.
....but my shield is a different shape and angle than yours, so I dont know if adding lowers would do the trick for you.

I have the same issue (as many do). I've done several mods to the bike for comfort but the one I haven't taken on yet is elimination of helmet buffeting. Through some testing I've confirmed that the air flow causing the buffet comes from underneath the windshield. I'm hoping that the addition of lowers will prove to be the solution.

What table is dinner on anyway? We're done in 20 on a slow night.

I've got the 21" Memphis Fats. There were still buffetting problems until I made a set of lowers. The problem isn't the air over the top of the shield. It's the air coming under it. To test it, go for a ride and get up to about 50. Place your hand on your knee, palm down. Now, lift your hand up, keeping your palm facing forward. On my bike, after adding the 21", the wind coming under the shield would push my hand back into my chest. Now that I added lowers, there is almost no buffetting at all. I'd say 98% is gone.

Lowers are the answer... I put them on both bikes and no more buffeting...

Increasing screen angle would reduce the air dam effect and low pressure bubble on your side to smooth out the flow. Might not stop all the buffeting but should, in theory, help pull/push air over the top more efficiently.

I had the same issue. I have a 21 in memphis fat on mine. had the buffeting when the shield was high, lowered it about 2 inches and now it is 99% gone.

I put on a Memphis Shades Slim a few months ago and thought my head was going to pop. I played around with the up/down forward/back settings and found down and learned back did the trick for me. My ears thank me for it everyday.

A side-note: The bike rode better with it learned toward me as well since it wasn't pushing a wall of air in front of me, HUGE difference.
