Home made lowers

These were easy to make, I used 1/4" lexan I bought on line. Each piece is about 5.5x15".
The aluminum is 3/4" angle aluminum, and used stainless hose clamps to attach it.
What a difference!
Obviously, the air is knocked off the legs and feet. But it also smooths the air out behind the windshield. Air was flowing up over my knees, and some up the chest . Minor buffeting is gone.
But now, you almost feel a "tail wind" as wind wraps around everything and probably curls around, I am betting there is a venturi effect going on.
I'll get some better stainless cap screws / nuts to replace the cheap zinc plated junk, it's just what I had on hand.
You can't see in the photos, but they are mounted at a slight angle like the sides of the windshield, not flat across the front.

Sweet! I would add some strips of rubber under the brackets and clamps otherwise the (wind) friction will do a number on your (soft) forks.

A good suggestion!
I do not believe they will move around in the wind, they are pretty steadfast. But the rubber is good insurance. I'll do that when I replace the hardware.

Ol Larry, I would leave your home made lowers (call them mid's) and add the lowers to the forks, before removing yours (if they don't interfere with each other). They look functional.

Nothing against the design, but attaching them to the forks seems like a bad idea. Aren't you afraid wind buffeting will affect handling?

I was wondering about this myself. After a bit of thinking though I don't think it would affect handling any more than a windshield or more traditional (read: manufactured) lowers. They all attach to the forks/triple trees/handlebars anyway.

Have you noticed any negative handling effects?
