Hope there isn't something in the air. Welcome to the venison club. I got my 2nd one 2 weeks ago.

Bike vs Deer

Glad you are ok. My bike didn't come out so good either. Still weighing options myself.

Glad it's mostly rabbits on the road 'round here.

5k would be a dandy down payment on a Stryker.

It only gets 40mpg, but I'm king of the road! Muahahahaha.

Second I have the phantom and I LOVE it. Its so comfortable when on a long ride. Its very smooth in 5 gear and handles great. I would recommend fully.
I'm leaning towards the Phantom. A bit of a different look/probably feel. I may break down and actually buy a new/no previous owner bike. I've never purchased a brand spanking new bike cause you can always find the ones that have less than 2000 miles on them.

Don't know yet...BUT THE HUNT IS ON!

I think the Striker is belt driven isn't it? Wouldn't work out with 8 miles of gravel a day.

On the other hand...do you get a hot chick like that one when you buy a Striker? I could use one of those. At my age I'm not sure what I'd do with her...but it still might be fun to have one around anyway. ...

Do a VTX 1300. Got shaft (no rocks) and gobs of power when you need it. You can black them out and still have money left over.
Sorry no hot girl in Pic.

The bike came with putting the hot girl through school.

Why would the belt drive be a problem on gravel? I love me some belt drive. All the benefits of a chain, none of the maintenance. It's a winner.

Glad your ok Charles... Gotta admit, I also thought at first glance to the post that you said "I BONED A DEER" and I thought to myself... Please, no pics Charles... although I wouldn't put it past ya.

In all seriousness, I'm glad you made it out alive and kickin.

I would also suggest a shaft drive bike on that gravel road of yours... No muss, No fuss and low maintenance.

An occasional slow mile or two on gravel isn't much of a problem. But 8 miles of gravel a day (and at the speeds I ride gravel) would chew a belt to threads. The gravel flips up and gets in between the belt and the gear. That much gravel is even hell on a chain. So it's pretty much shaft for me. Last bike I had when I moved out there was chain. That much gravel wore out a couple of chains. So yeah...no belt for sure.

With your $5k, you could not only buy a low mileage Tourer, but you'd have money left over for accessories. And, oh yeah, NO BIKE PAYMENT!!!
