Default Advice: Wife problem

Hey guys I really need some advice. My wife has a problem with me trading in my shadow for GSXR 750(ik im leaving you guys sorry). I tried to explain that ive outgrown the shadow and wanted to trade in my bike for a bit faster one. She said that was fine but was looking at used bikes for a time but when i was told that Suzuki is have a 0% financing for 2011 models and I qualified for it and there for my payments would not increase and i could purchase a brand new bike therefore I was excited.
Long story short, i post on facebook about qualifying for 0% and was going to call her after i left my college class to tell her, but she saw it before i could tell her.SO she annoyed and upset that i didnt tell her first and now she mad cause she wanted to purchase a newer car in a couple of years (new knowledge to my mind, when we payed her current car off last year she wanted to enjoy no payments not to say im a college student and we only make $62,000 a year and a new car payment would be a stretch on our buget very thin)
I dont know what to do, she said shes just tired of hearing about motorcycles and doesnt care what i do (which im willing to test) but my view it doesnt increase payments just increases the term of the loan, and ill end up paying less on this new bike then the shadow i own.

guys what do i do???

You have a bike, she has a car.. why continue with financing anything else, either bike or car..things are fun, but they can be an expensive way of seeking satisfaction.

What's more important to you? Riding a faster, newer bike or keeping your wife happy?

You've opened up a can of worms my friend. I certainly don't qualify as a marriage counsellor.
But since you asked, here are my thoughts:

You say that your combined income is $62,000/yr. Based on that alone, I would be very thankful that I even owned a motorcycle. If a new(er) vehicle is on the horizon, then priorities must prevail. Even though your payments will be the same, buying a new motorcycle will cost you more money in the long run.

I am not a fan of Facebook so I can't understand why there is a need to publicize your personal business which inevitably ended you up in hot water. So my advice is, keep what you have, be thankful for what you have. Old saying goes "Happy wife, happy life."

On the plus side, there will be motorcycle deals in a couple of years.

Good luck.

After 41 years of "Bliss" let me just say, your wife's perception and view of the situation does not change because she says "do what you want". That's code for your about to make me mad.

Elephants have nothing on women and their memories and their ability to bring it into play at a moments notice.

This is not a monumental thing but it is the "gorilla" in the room on a decision like this. It involves her new car. Does not matter that this want is news to you, it has been on her mind and want list a while.

So, just threw this stuff in for consideration. Never under estimate the perception that you have ESP and know what your spouse is thinking and desiring at all times, should have know about the car ....

This is a decision you will live with for a while, while, while, while, while. 5 Whiles = Forever

And by the way, Facebook is a blight on the human existance ...

I'm not going to go into a big spell about your marriage, but I will say that there seems to be some communication issues going on if there were things you were both planning on doing and neither of you were in on the loop about it.

Personally? A new bike sounds good, but how long you planning on paying on it? 5 years probably? Keep that in mind with the job you have currently.

She's talking about getting a new car? What car do you guys have now? How old is it? Etc. I will say on the list of priorities in vehicles... Car > Bike. Not to me, I break that rule as my only vehicle is a motorcycle(Yeah, I'm crazy, we can start a thread about it later if we get bored)

But, do what's best for BOTH of you. Marriage is two people living one life pretty much, and I think you guys should find a happy medium. Just don't stretch yourself thin, and maybe getting a used sport-bike isn't a rough start, you might drop it not being used to the design and style of riding *shrug* Good luck with your choices!

well making the wife mad, while sometimes fun, is rarely a good idea. if she's saying she doesn't care i'd say buy yesterday, but you know you're wife and the how your household is run. the fact that you're asking people on a forum that may or may not know your wife tells me you probably shouldn't make this move at this time.

with that said, i'd say if you already have a home and/or don't have plans to move in the near future, and all she's asking for is a new car i think you should do it. here's how you spin it and it could be 100% true. "by trading in my Sabre, my/our credit score go up"

good luck, my wife hates that i own a bike and i want a gsxr 750 in addition to my sabre. be happy that yours is on board even if it's just verbally. take pics of your gsxr when you get it (yeah we know you're going to buy it regardless).

one more thing, it's probably not hard for your wife to find you posting on this site. I wouldn't call the topic name "wife problem". sure she could see what it's about, but um...yeah probably just not the best idea.

It's easier to get forgiveness than it is to get permission... get the bike...
