Not a good idea. You would be putting yourself at risk for any roadway debris that could be kicked up and into your path by the semi. Not to mention the possibility of have one its tires come apart in close proximity to you. FYI, most semi trailers on the road run with recap tires because they're cheaper. That is why you see tread sections of truck tires on the roadways.

Well I rode to work today it was nice when I went in at 1pm, but coming home at 10 there were some serious gusts and the temp was down to 45 and windchill was 37. Still was nice to ride today. I am down in Hollister, MO.

My sensible side got the better of my. Drove the cage. Enjoyed some tunes and a good cup o coffee on the drive in, and going home I'll have a nice warm cage to protect me from the cold. Saturday I can enjoy a ride in the 50's and it's a win win. Plus I'm scared of dealing with rush hour traffic on the bike. Only been riding since 1/28/12.

It's usually a good idea to trust one's instincts. Sounds like a good call on your part.

that was probably a wise decision. I have a lot more experience now than the first time I rode in rush hour traffic, and I still don't like it.

If it's as cold as you say, probably a better choice. I ride all year long through all the weather, but I don't have a choice. Comfort > almost anything else.

What's the rush. Take your time, be patient, get some experience.

Then you'll be ready for lots of traffic.

Always trust your instinct and ride at your comfort level. Never push it or risk something beyond your capabilities. Riding is only fun if you do it safely. When my wife first started to ride sometimes she would only go about a mile or two and come back. Then slowly over time she went further and further until I started to worry about her and would go look for her. She was just out having a good time. Next thing you know we were riding across the country together.
