lol - this thread seems to be going off at a tangent now

Heres an idea ..... build one ...

I have a basket case VT 750 Shadow with a blown motor but is basically a rolling frame and has all the brakes and shaft drive etc

Basically an electric bike consists of an electric motor, batteries and an Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) and a bit of technical knowledge

I am giving some serious thought to building one right now, I may have access to an old golf cart which should have the motor and ESC I need and I just need to update the batteries to a Li-on style

Are you saying you would NOT prefer a more efficient way of powering your vehicles? I'm not sure how I would categorize that, except that it would not go on the rational side of the ledger.

Look, history teaches that ALL of today's technologies will be considered crude and primitive in years to come, just as today we view 18th century bloodletting as a medical therapy. You don't have to be a futurist to say with 100% certainty that the internal combustion engine will be considered the vehicular equivalent of bloodletting within this century. When you consider all the vast improvements in other forms of technology -- medicine, communications, harnessing the atom and even photography, fer cryin' out loud -- the fact that the ICE is still reciprocating along as it did 100 years ago is nothing short of astonishing. FINALLY, thanks to high oil prices, this hiccup in human progress is being addressed.

But if you are happy with the status quo, good on 'ya.
Phlebotomy is still practiced, and the internal combustion engine will be with us for a long, looong time to come..thankfully

If your phlebotomist opens a vein in your arm to reduce a fever, you had better find another clinic. Unless, of course you are crazy enough to enjoy the sight of your life dripping away, a la George Washington.

Oh, wait......

I'll keep my blood inside me though.. but boy does it stir at the sound of a good running archaic V Twin or V8, sounds that continue , at least til I die

You could use a clothespin and either a Honus Wagner or Babe Ruth baseball card in the spokes!

I do see a business opportunity here though.

For the Helicopter business that will equip their choppers with huge batteries and a very long cable.

Just fly around, wait for the guys on these two wheeled dopey mobiles to signal. They can swoop down, drop their electrical connector, much like a refueling tanker, let the customer hookup and recharge.

Say $250.00 a charge. They will make it to. Payment in advance by credit card. And people are gonna pay it rather than get stuck in the middle of the no electric socket desert of the open road.

Laugh if you want if you think it is stupid. People were stupid enough to buy these pretend bikes and the 2 or 3 Volts that have been sold too....

New Energy-Dense Battery Could Enable Long-Distance Electric Cars: Scientific American

Just saw this today. Hate to say that I told 'ya so.....but I think I may have to go into the clairvoyant trade.

There are two things about this that will annoy all you "old schoolers": 1) advances like this will hasten the demise of gasoline engines; and 2) it was done WITH A GOVERNMENT GRANT. A liberal two-fer!

I can almost hear the gnashing of Crazy Dave's two remaining teeth.

Thanks for the offer on the barn sale. I guess that buggy whip franchise didn't work out for you, huh? Well, maybe you can corner the market in spark plugs now.
