Default Temper Tantrums...

So I thought I was a little older now, still not old by any means but at 34 I feel like I have grown up quite a bit from when I was 18-20. Over the last 14 years I have slowly come to grips with the fact that when I get pissed off and throw or break things, 1. I have to go find them again and 2. I have to pay to replace the things I broke. I have been pretty good for a while now and almost never get that upset by little things, but on occasion I still get pissed and I cuss and yell and stomp around like the sailor I am.

Well today I got my mustang seat and I should have known when I told myself "hey, its a ten minute job, lets go slap this thing on there and see how it looks". The seat looks fantastic on the bike, it really did only take me a couple minutes to pull the old one off and slip the new one into place. I put the mounting bolts in place and started to tighten them down when I noticed that my saddle bags were not sitting in the right spot. So of course in the middle of my "ten minute job" I decided to adjust the bags. Then I noticed that one of the quick release zippers had come apart and it was a miracle that I hadnt lost the bag somewhere on the side of the road. This led to 45 minutes of frustration while the zipper bested my every attempt to get it closed. Eventually I did notice the problem was that two of the teeth were missing, so after another ten minutes of frustration I did get a couple zip ties on each end of the split. After that the bags needed adjusted again and in doing so split the zipper and knocked the bags off their mounts, now here comes the part where I lost it. Tore the bags off the bike, threw them at the garage door, where they promptly broke two of the windows.

So two more hours spent fixing the bags, getting everything mounted up correctly and glass cleaned up from the drive way and finally my ten minute seat replacement is done. Total cost 2 washers, 6 zip ties, 1/2 a pack of cigarettes and 2 garage door windows. Lesson learned here is that although I thought I had grown up a little I apparently still slip back into my childish phase and it still costs me time, heartache and of course money.

Just thought I would share and hope every one else has had better luck with their ten minute jobs than I had today. Hopefully I wont have another day like this for a while.

I don't believe it is ever ok to go postal over inanimate objects.

This behavior apparently does not get better with time or age. See a counselor and save yourself money from broken things and possibly broken relationships.

Beware of the 10 minute jobs!

I had the rubber strip on the threshhold wear out on the door to the garage. Should be a simple fix to replace the rubber strip and all would be good to go. WRONG!! The house is 34 yrs old and I couldn't find a replacement strip. This meant replacing the entire threshhold by finding one that would work, cutting the aluminum replacement to size, drilling holes in concrete two different times, etc., etc. It took two weekends and eight trips to Home Depot and damn near a heart attack to get it to work.

Beware of the 10 minute jobs!

Seek professional help.
Perhaps anger management training....

Personally, when you're that pissed off, I believe it would be heathier to just go ahead and break something and get it over with. At least then it's over with and you'll most likely calm down with the realization of "oh sh!t, I broke something." If you listen to the Shiny Happy People, you'll probably end up with an ulcer or an aneurism from trying to hold it all in.

I keep a punching bag in my garage for moments just like that.

Hopefully lesson learned man, happens to the best of us! I usually leave it at the cursing, followed by smoking at least 3-4 cigs and just go and sit down, listen to some tunes and approach the project later. Playing the drums helps too, those I can beat the snot out of and not have to worry about breaking anything, and even then, they tend to piss me off too if I'm in a recording session.

You're not alone. Have been known to throw stuff when I get pissed. Now when the wife sees a sawhorse fly by the back window she just shakes her head and continues on with whatever she was doing.
