I take it by overdrive you mean drive shaft..
don't touch the top cap. the bottom bolt is the drain the next one up is the filler.. You fill it until it reaches the bottom of the filler bolt. John.

My wife and I just did 1500 miles with a max of 400 mile days from mi to ny and back riding 2 up on our '85 vt500 with no problems. You'll be fine! Enjoy!

Wow. Nice find man. Barn/garage stored?
I got my barn stored 85 500 for 200 bucks. 20000km on it. Just needed a little tlc that I did mostly myself. Hopefully you got a similar deal. These old shadows can be found in great condition for pocket change if you have the will to find em. |

dwd1966 i figured it out i overfilled it but and redrained it everythings fine now, Hurg i did get a good deal i believe i bought the bike for $1800 and it only had 7600 miles its completley stock i put the windshield and some progressive shocks on it and thats it runs great.

A 500 mile trip at freeway speeds (or higher) is no problem. Look at where your redline is... I probably wouldn't run at redline all that time, but half or 3/4 is no big deal. The bike is meant to be ridden... go ride it and have a blast
