Default Known issues with the Shadow 600 VLX?

Hello.

Im new to street biking and to the forum. I would like to know what the known issues are for the Shadow 600 VLX. I just bought one this past Friday and it would be great to know what to look out for. Im a Honda man and every Honda bike (three wheeler and quad) I've owned is practically bulletproof. Hopefully their street bikes are the same.

I am fairly new to Hondas, but it would be safe to say your 600 will continue the 'bulletproof' tradition.
I've been very pleased with mine. I can only compare it to Harleys.

The general consensus I hear everywhere is that all Hondas are known for reliability. With the price I've seen on their motorcycles coupled with the reputation for reliability, well...that's why I'm here with my VT1100.

The only problem with the VLX is that you do have to put gas in them , other than that they are great bikes.

ive had 2,and so far no issues other then too small for me. fun to ride, nimble, light weight, low center of gravity and very reliable.
ive been contemplating selling this one and maybe buy a bigger bike,ie. r1300vtx but im afraid if i do sell it i wont get more then $2000- 2500$ out of it and i have no money to put towards the "x" and ill end up bikeless.

Hi NJCJOE. Thx for your reply. I was thinking the tank was a bit on the small side. Do you know if anyone has changed the 600VLX tank to a larger capacity? Maybe that should be a new thread eh?

Hi craig s. Thx for your reply. I choose the 600vlx because I'm 5'8" and my legs are short. The vlx was one of the first bikes I was able to sit on the seat and touch the ground flat footed. After trying it out I thought to myself "this bike was made for me". Time will tell if it's a good fit.

I believe your worries are warranted. NADA shows the average book value for your ride is $2291 and the low end is $1740. Kelly Blue Book shows $2615. That doesn't mean somebody wouldn't pay more for your bike but you might get chewed down in price if you would sell.

Hi NJCJOE. Thx for your reply. I was a bit concerned about the small tank myself. I don't think I will be doing long rides anytime soon so I should be ok. But that can change as I get used to riding on the street. Do you know if anyone here has changed out the 600vlx tank for a larger capacity tank? Maybe that should be a new topic eh!?

which makes me laugh when i see people selling older bikes with 10's of thousand miles on them for way more then what id get..even dealers get/ask more for them then what the kbb.com or nada.com shows they should..i know people can ask what they want but come on..3-4000 for a 90's model with mileage in the 10-20k range? mine only has 65?? miles on it. id ask 3000k and hope to get 2500$..always ask more. you can come down, but can't go up in price.

oh and on your swapping out tank for a bigger size for more volume tank..it can be done, but takes lots of fab work..ive been wanting to do this too but dont have the skills/tools to do it right.
