Also check the local school board adult education classes. When my GF decided to ride she found a course and asked that I go with her and it was pretty good and less expensive than the MC schools It was offered at a technical high school that had a great shop. We supplied the bikes and I was surprised how detailed the course was over a few weekends.

I would say go for it! Anytime spent learning to work on your bike is a good thing. That being said, definitely obtain a copy of the Honda factory service manual. It will be the most valuable tool that you have when it comes to working on the bike.

Absolutely it's worth it. You can learn these things on your own with a manual, but this is a very convenient shortcut.

See if you can get them to cover basic carb work (disassembly and cleaning) as well.

Here's the sticky with the manuals.
Honda Service Manuals

Just wondering though, I know these go over basic maintenance, but don't the Haynes and Chilton ones cover other repairs specifically?

I have a '92 VT1100c which I bought with a lot of faults on it, I bought the Haynes, Clymer and Honda manuals and I use all three because they are different, I also take photographs from different angles of everything I dismantle so that I can put it back the same way..I use one of those 'picture frame' things with an SD card with the photographs on so that I can page through them as I work.

It works for me and as I am old it can stop me forgetting something..
