Ive got a lead on a cb750k. i havent gone to look yet but i was wondering what i should know about them. any common problems or kinks associated with these bikes? Is the 750k similar to the nighthawk series? and what sort of value does a well maintanied bike hold?

Very solid bike for the vintage. Price is totally dependent on the maintenance level. Sometimes I see these as beaters and sometimes as pristine. I don't think they are highly collectible because there were so many. You can pretty well determine what the shape of the bike is by the state of the appearance (stock parts vs replacements) as well as the sound of it running. To me the CB series (street bike) was the predesessor of the Nighthawk but I actually like the CB better because it was a simple sttreet bike with very classic lines.

Charging rotors short out fairly frequently, People are lazy and didn't adjust the valve lash every 5k like Honda told them, therefore the DOHC like that had a bad name for burning valves.
Also the cam chains aren't self adjusting, so make sure the cam chains are in good condition. If the proper maintenance isn't done they will be stretched... DOHC 750's are great bikes if you keep up on the regular maintenance. They don't usually demand high dollar though, especially the cb750k's The 79 750K being more valuable than the rest of them. Dont be fooled by the "limited edition" 750K, they were mass produced, the 79K with the "boat tail" are more rare and valuable.
