Default Our sunday Stroll, Got exciting!

OK, The wife and I went for a ride with some friends of ours Sunday evening. We headed out away from everything then headed to everything for some dinner. We had a nice 25 or so mile ride, nice and uneventful, then we made a stop...
This site was just too cool looking not to take a pic!

And one more...look closely, do you see it?

Well in the first pic you see two of our friends bikes, one VTX 1300R and a nice Yamaha 1100.
The second pic you see our rides. Did you see why we stopped?
Well let me tell you the story:
We are 10 miles from nowhere and 10 more from somewhere, got it? So we are cruising along, I am riding tail gunner(in the back) wife in front, then 3 more bikes in the lead, we have the women in between the men, kind of protection if you will. Well I was watching everything up in front of me and noticed the wife's shoulders shrugging if you will, we are not riding the same line, so I figure maybe its the road, back country and kind of rocky, but then I look down
Her tire is flat as a pancake! AND we are running around 55mph!
So I start flagging and flashing and motioning to slow down and trying to get the attention of the lead riders, well I probably don't have to tell you I was scared and praying for her to safely stop and get off the road! Well she did, she slowed down as she should have, no throttle, no brakes no shifting, just coasted. She got to a nice pull off(in pic 2) and I pulled up beside her, she still was not certain what tire or exactly what the problem was ???
So I get there and start calming down as the other riders got back to us! We were just before a curve, well the others went beyond it, as they rounded the curve coming back all they saw was her Pink Joe rocket jacket in the woods, and they then got REAL scared!
So pics time! Here is what the tire and thing looked like:

Now, y'all got any guesses what it was? Say huh, huh?
Never guess, not in a hundred years!

So, as you can probably tell it was a key, like a Quick-set house key! The key was embedded completely!
So for the rescue one of the guys was kind enough to haul butt back to town(20 miles) and get his truck and trailer.
So, Monday I removed the tire and took it to my local always trustworthy independent shop and got the GREAT news, the tire was indeed TRASHED > > this tire as you can tell was like new, less than 2k on it, but the hole on the inside was about a 1/2" and the outside was at least 1"! So new rubber time > >
He does not stock much, even less than a little in her size
Well I had the choice of a Shinko or nothing right then, so I talked with him about his personal opinion and asked around the other guys to see what they thought. Then I went and checked out their rides, 4 of 5 were riding the Shinkos, so I bought it.
I have to say, I was really impressed with the look and tread design of the tire! Now I know it will not last anywhere near as long as the Metzelers, but she rides 1/3rd of the miles I do, I don't ride a TON of miles, but I do ride year round and average 2 days a week to work. So this tire will probably last her 2 years if no more keys find her!
stock tire size was a 160/70(or80)/15 I think. this tire was a 170/80/15, this tire looks better and fills the fender better:

This tire I think over all will be better for her in the long run. It is a softer compound and should handle wet conditions better, if she ever gets stuck in the rain riding!
So, this was my Exciting Sunday evening stroll, but fortunately it turned out really good thank God!
We had a Hurst (empty) stop to check on us, as well as a State patrol, 2 different old dudes in farm trucks and 2 guys on HD's. We made some new friends and some great contacts for the future!
Hope y'all don't have the same happen, but if you do COAST to a stop!
Coop

Glad it worked out well for you and your bride. I've had one tire get low on me from a nail but it was the front tire....cornering really sucked, then I figured out why.
