My brother and me are planning a road trip this summer. Our ideal trip is really about the ride and what you can see over the handlebars. The final destination is really not that important. So my question for you all....
If you have 10 days to just jump on your iron horses and ride, where would you go? We will be starting near Columbus, Ohio. Plan to stay at campgrounds, parks or wherever. I've herd that you can just camp anywhere in the national forest for free, so that maybe an option. Doing in on the cheap, with as many miles as you can.

Starting from Columbus, I'd head east into central PA and then north into up state NY. Lots of National Forests and such around there. Check out the Catskills on the way. You can find plenty to take up your time around there. I spent about 3 months wandering around that area when I got back from the war in '73. Really helped to get my head screwed back on straight.
Happy Trails! sanoke

That's a tough one, I've been in every state in the lower 48, canada, mexico. Every state has something fantastic worth seeing, Start doing some research on the national parks that are in the general directions you plan on going. the point and shoot thing is cool, but I found it easier to plan a couple really cool destinations, and the stuff you see on the way is that much more of a bonus.
off topic but I'd like to add.......for Sanoke I'm glad you made it back......God Bless |

I would head Northwest. Go up and ride near the Canadian border and over into Montana then down to Yellowstone to Denver and back. That would get you somewhere under 400 miles a day.

Hit up the Skyway on the Tennessee/North Carolina border and just hang out in the mountains. There is some beautiful riding there. I'm headed up there on the 14th of May for a week.
And if you're feeling adventurious ride the Tail of the Dragon. It's like 316 turns in 11 miles. |
