ok the new to me 2003 Shadow 750 factory original seat looks nice and sets nice/acceptable when setting still - after riding not very far the old coccyx is burning aching......I have 6" forward controls coming this week - once these are installed if the butt pain issue is still a problem what seat would be recommended and why - I am 6'1 350lbs 32" inseam - ride 10 miles round trip to work everyday - average 100 miles+ per week and 100+ miles per weekend........is there any decent add on seat cushion or is seat replacement the only way to solve the butt pain! - has anyone had thier factory seat re-upholstered with extra padding added? if so how did that work for you?...i know lots of questions, sorry.

I had the same feeling, no pun intended, about the stock seat and butt burn.
I considered having meancitycycles do a rebuild of the foam on the OEM seat as they come pretty highly recommended, but I ended up getting a nearly new Mustang seat off eBay for $275.00 including shipping. I haven't ridden more than 4 or so times with it but so far it seems to be a much more comfortable seat than OEM. Does sit me a bit higher and a little farther forward than the OEM seat but not a bad thing really. Would I have paid the $519 retail price for the Mustang seat, no, but at under $300 I had to pop on it.

I paid retail for my Mustang seat, with back rest, and glad I did. I took a 650 mile one day trip up to Washington state, 12 and a half hours worth. No butt pain at all. Exhausting, but no butt pain.

My new Mustang seat with backrest is on the truck for delivery today. I paid full retail. Yeah, the stock seat on my just over 400 miles 2012 Aero sucks that much. A bit late I realized I could have probably gotten it rebuilt on the side by some of the guys in the upholstery shop at work. They build custom interiors for flying palaces where a small plane is a 737. But, I also want the back rest, so Mustang it is.
I'm hoping between the seat and the 3" control extenders I just ordered (5' 9"/220) things will feel a lot less cramped and uncomfortable. I'll let you know after I get some time in the new saddle, but I've not talked to anyone yet who regretted getting a Mustang seat, only glad that they did. That pretty much sealed it for me. |

I'll add my 2 cents for the Ultimate seat with backrest, for my '06 Aero 750. It's perfect for me. I've ridden 400+ miles/day and besides the usual aches and stiffness with my bad knees etc., I feel fine at the end of that day.
Just happened to have a pic handy --

The back rest deal is not something I had considered - I tried to get on my riding buddies VTX1300 with after market seat with back rest - "the berries were not in the bowl" if you get my drift - not comfortable at all - and I have to mount dismount the bike in an unorthodox manner - right side mount/dismount because fo bad left knee cant put all my weight on my left leg and pivot - so no traditional mount/dismount for me.....back rest might make that process even more "monkey humping a football'ish" than it already is.

well for what it's worth i have 3 seats in my garage, only one of which is on my bike. Mean city was the way i was going to go, but when I talked with them to tell them what i wanted, they told me it would push me forward in my seat which is not what i wanted. I'm 6'2" 280 with a 33" - 34" inseam.
The stock was okay, the mustang squareback was better, but the wide touring with backrest was just right. In case you're interested the other 2 are for sale and like new. Mine are for a Sabre 1100, but of course they fit others. |

I also have a sissybar with luggage rack. If I ever tried to put a pack on the passenger seat (and not on the luggage rack), no way can I get my right leg over the bike! So we all do what we gotta do, this works out great for me.

I have to do something...these long trips make me feel like I should just get an inflatable donut. But $650+ is a lot of paper to throw at a seat. I really wish for a cheaper option.
