Harbor Freight Tools...

My wife bought me a socket set from Harbor Freight a number of years ago. It looks similar to this one:

64 Piece 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" Socket Set

Now, now, now, I love my wife dearly, but, this socket set is the most cheesiest, cheapest, most utterly worthless POS stuff I have ever owned. The 1/4" socket wrench busted and will not ratchet in either direction - it just spins freely. The 5/8" socket for the 1/2" drive cracked and split down the side, and I think one or two of the metric 3/8" sockets broke too. I keep the socket set in my truck behind my seat. Mostly to use as weapons if I need to throw them at someone!

But still just as expensive as ever. And the lifetime guarantee doesn't apply to torque wrenches -- ask me how I know. I now use my 1/2" drive Craftsman as a lever and my $20 HF one to torque things because the HF still works.

I fire up my generator every year or two, whenever Detroit Edison tells me I should. I call them to report the outage then wait for the recording to give me the estimated repair time. Anything over triple what it takes to pull out the generator and fire it up is a possibility. It almost always takes more time to pack up the generator than the time I had it running. But, man, on those days it doesn't the generator is worth every penny. (Especially since I've had it for 20 years now.)

I buy certain things from Hobo Freight . I bought my chop saw which works great for as much as I need it . My bike table , punch flange tool , and earthquake 3/8 impact gun that I use everyday . I took a gamble one time and bought the step drill bits for 8 bux and they cut anything I put to them . I do agree though it is hit and miss on things you buy there .

Yeah well so is pretty much everything else you buy now a days. Most of my Craftsman tools are 30 years old.

My craftsmans are pushing 25 now. Great stuff back in the day. Not so sure now that K-Mart owns them but still a lifetime warranty?
