Default My Trip to Tortilla Flat

Was a great weather day here in AZ, some clouds and cooler. I decided it was time for a bike ride, my first on winding mountain roads. From Apache Junction I took Apache Trail for the 10 mile twisting ride to Tortilla Flat. Great scenery along the way and pics can be found on my Google+ site.
I was no speedster on the corners but I learned a lot and will do the trip again. The road was free of rock debris from slides but there was gravel at intersections for some reason and there were these strange bumps that ran perpendicular and spanned the road making them impossible to avoid. Very unpleasant.
Total trip was 115 miles, fill up pegged the mpg at 58.

Nice, I am planning on heading up Mt. Lemmon sometime. Right now I mostly just commute to work everyday. Gotta love the weather out here.

first time I went to Tortilia Flatt I continued on to Roosevelt Lake. Beautiful ride through the canyon but you want to be familiar with gravel roads.

yeah, I did that run all the way to Roosevelt Lake about 5 years ago in a Camaro. That sucked with that car but was great scenery.

Yes, that road past TF is nasty, a local said that there is no money to fix it and it gets worse each year. It's 20 miles long and I'm not taking my bike on it. I can get to Roosevelt Lake via Globe.

Very nice ride, I rode there in March. Nice roads, I had my wife on the back, so gravel was pretty unappealing. I am flying back to AZ on Monday to ride my bike back to WA. Might go through Showlow & up to Mexican Hat UT or through Jerome & Oak Creek up to Page. Cool areas to ride.

I was up to Tortilla Flat just last Sunday. Rode up with some more experienced riders. Good sandwich at the restaurant tho. I may try it again, but have some other places I want to go first.
