Default Ride to Saguaro Lake

The heat is building into the Phoenix area this coming week and I've been exploring before this happens. Yesterday I took a ride to Saguaro Lake. From my location it was a 55 mile trip. Once past the urban sprawl the ride became very enjoy able, passing by various recreation areas (shooting and parks) on Usery Pass Road and then on to Bush Hyw. The roads were not a challenging as the ones to Tortilla Flat but were in great condition. Scenery was great, long vista views for the desert and mountains but unfortunately only gravel pull offs so I didn't get any pictures.

Arriving at the Saguaro Lake, the first thing I noticed was the smell. Not a bad one at all, just the smell that a lake has from the plants and fish. Living in the desert one forgets that smell and it brought a smile to my face remembering past water-related adventures. There is a restaurant there (did't go in) and the parking lot was a mix of cars and motorcycles. Must have been about 2 dozen bikes of which all but 2 were HDs. There is a marina there which rents boats for use (good ones too) and there is a tour boat ride.

I didn't linger long as I didn't have a pass (Tonto National Forest) for parking but one could spend the day there easily swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, or ATV/dirk bike riding. I posted a few pictures to my Google+ site:

The restaurant is a very good place to eat. Ride out to Bartlett lake too. Very nice ride out through Cave Creek. Also, the Dolly Steamboat on Canyon lake is really nice. Dinner cruise too.

Oh yea, got to ride the road (89A I think) from Jerome to Prescott. Perhaps wait till they get the fire out however.
