well, after putzing around my local hardware store for a good 3 hours brainstorming different ways to mount a hard plastic guitar case on my motorcycle, i went home with little to no idea how i wanted to proceed. i have a luggage rack on my bike, as well as saddle bag mounts, and i would love to be able to go ahead and fabricate something in the next few weeks, i'm just not sure where i want to start. my only concern is if i make modifications to a 100$ guitar case and then it doesn't work the way i want, i may have to start again which could be rather costly... any ideas/advice/solutions i havent heard of?
basically what i want to do is either build some type of bracket that would attach to my quick-release saddlebag mount points and then somehow bolt+glue it to the guitar case, or make some type of attachment that would let me slap it on my sissy bar. only problem is the sissy bar is rather short, and thought i wouldnt mind having a slightly taller one, i'd rather wait until i go ahead with a mustang combo seat to spend more on seating gear. PS: if i cant come up with an effective solution, i may go ahead and buy one of these: Songwriter Series: VAOM-06

I don't think you should pursue this any further.
1. Buy a good quality gig bag that you can wear like a backpack. 2. Get a Backaxe Instrument Case Backpack like the one sold at elderly.com 3. Learn to play the harmonica. Don't go too fast while carrying a guitar on your bike. |

i have a back-pack strapped wolfpack case that i use now, but it catches wind like crazy and i feel that it would eventually rip under extended use. and this isnt so much of a "i would like to maybe do this" situation as an "i dont own a car so this is how i transport my guitar" situation, so i may need to highway it every now and then

Maybe a bracket that allowed you to mount a hard case on the passenger seat and angled to the rear so it would better cut the wind and wind pressure would push the case down into the bracket instead of trying to tear it off.
I'm thinking inverted U. One that just comes just over the passenger seat and attaches along the lower 1/4 to 1/3 of the case, then another back by the luggage rack that comes up like a tall sissy bar and the middle of the U bracket connects to the upper portion of the case in such a way the case leans back at around a 50 to 60 degree angle or so. Just want to make sure you have good support across the mounting areas of the case so the mounts don't pull out of the case. Maybe a flat face on the base of each U and a corresponding flat piece inside the case to spread the locking force. Martin used to make, guess they still do, a travel/backpacking guitar. Martin Nylon-String Classical Backpacker Travel Guitar on eBay! Would save a lot of hassle. Or just take up the Ukulele. |

I use a Traveller Speedster that I can carry on my back for my guitar lessons.
It's only 28" long and comes in with a custom fit gig bag and stays in tune while riding. Full 24 3/4 scale length adjustable nut and a truss rod. Plays great. Speedster - Traveler Guitar

Thanks a lot, btw. Looking up that stupid Martin Backpacker, I ended up buying a mildly used one on eBay. I haven't played in years and I wasn't much beyond a strummer then. Sheesh. Did know a young lady who had one and she was pretty good, and kinda cute too.
This place can be as bad as the 1911 forum I was hanging out on (until I got the bike) for helping fellow forumites to spend their money. LOL. |
