Default Weight Matters!

I've always wondered why so many other riders got such great mileage on their rides, because that really wasn't my experience. My 2002 Shadow ACE 750 usually went 135-142 before I had to flip the reserve on. I was always a little envious...figured it was poor maintenance on my part, or our hilly/mountainous areas, etc.

Nope.

I'm now getting 180-185 miles per tank, before having to hit the reserve.

The difference?

I'm now 220 pounds lighter, having gone from 450 to 229 pounds over the past two years.

Wow!!! How awesome is that? My bike just got BETTER!!! Ten years old now, and still in love with my Shadow 750 ACE.

Hmmm...I'm not sure...any mods to your bike that might account for that? Changes in the exhaust? I notice that on your photo, the mike has been heavily modified...powdercoated rims, the stock exhaust has been replaced with a pair of straights, etc...nice tips on those pipes, btw...

Maybe that accounts for some of it...the mods, I mean...not because of the weight, but, was the air intake changed, or maybe some performance enhancements made?

Do you have some other pics of your bike? (I also noticed that the seat isn't stock...it's at least been recovered, if not replaced...)? The reason I'm curious is because it looked like the front fender is off...is that right? My front fender is damaged, and I've been trying to find a replacement, but can't so far...but now I'm wondering...how would it look without it entirely?

And, do you get much spray when you ride in the rain (which is fairly common for me.)

Would love to see more pics of your ride, dude...

Have a great night!

Thumbs up

Great work! Keep taking care of yourself. Not as much to live longer, which you'll invariably do, but more so that you're healthier and be able to enjoy more.

I'm a pretty smallish guy. About 160 (was about 185 - no great loss there). My 2004 Shadow VT100 gets me to about 130 before I flip it. I have some great twisties and a fair amount of traffic. I'm also not shy when I see no traffic around, so I bet it would be more like 140.

well i am glad to know it is possible to go that far on the 750, wish I could - I am now 350 down from 450 over a yr ago and still dropping doubt i will ever see that kind of number as i will probably bottom out around mid 200's ultimately.....right now only going about 100 before hitting reserve.....my secret is cutting out/way back on carbs/sugar/salt/fat......up on fiber/fruits/vegs & hot peppers (speed up the metabolism)

I'm 155 pounds, my bike has a windshield and I got 158 miles before hitting reserve yesterday. I do have the punch mod done so that figured out to be 48 mpg mixed city/highway.
