Default How to know if carbs have been re-jetted?

Hey guys, I know i've been posting a lot lately but I won't be able to start riding my bike around until after i get insurance and finish the MSF training course. I know this bike needs a lot of work done on it and I plan to take care of it all before the new semester starts because I will be so screwed if I have something happens during the school year. Anyways I just bought the bike with 2 previous owners. The guy I bought it from only owned the bike for 3 months so he had absolutely no idea about anything. Long story short spark plugs are oily, leaking petcock, and gas smell in my oil. I know i need to pull the carburetor and clean it but I'm not sure if the first owner re-jetted the carbs when he put on the V&H exhaust. Is there any way I can tell if he did? If not, do I have to? The rejet kit is like $100!!!

The only way to tell is to pull the carbs and see what jets/needles are in there.

I wouldn't use that kind of assumption on either jets or brake pads.. should have been means nothing.. point one

point two.. rejetting is over rated as a necessity

O okay, yea I'm going to pull the carb one of these weeks and if the needles are stock it wouldnt be horrible to the bike if I don't rejet them right?

Make note of numbers stamped into the jets and then look them up in the catalog (on line microfiche) and see if they match.

+1.

I paid a place to rejet my bike. Two days later my bike broke down. I towed it to the closest shop, and low and behold the bike was never rejetted. I never assume anything.
