I thought we solved this discussion...According to Halifax, he is the only person that is smart/experienced enough to determine what tires that other riders should mount on their machine.

Astronauts fly into space. There have to be many dangers in that. But you didn't hear of the "experts" telling them not to do it. All of the dark siders have shown over and over that putting a car tire on a motorcycle is not an instant death sentence. Car tires are just not safe for a motorcycle and won't work. And yet they can't explain why all who use car tires just don't crash and burn on a regular basis. Just makes me think that its a money issue.
My $0.02. Mike

My favorite sentence in that article:
"Just use the motorcycle tires on the days when you need to avoid a crash." Phil

Nobody is saying that running a car tire on a motorcycle is an instant death sentence. I would put it more on par with riding without a helmet or riding without gear. I'm sure that there are many people who ride without a helmet, or without gear who won't crash and burn; just like there are many people who will ride on a car and won't die because of it. But to say that riding on a car tire is better or safer than riding on a motorcycle tire is simply not true. Running a car tire on a motorcycle adds another level of risk but, like riding without a helmet or gear, it is a risk that can be managed and/or minimized.......... Phil

BTW, putting a car tire on a bike is nowhere near as groundbreaking as space travel was back in the day. Or even today.

In the quote above, the ones who said that were NOT experts, except maybe in their own minds. Anyone else who really thought that was just an example of the lemming effect. In the present discussion of car tires on a bike.......there is kind of an underlying assumption that all bike riders really know what they are doing and are qualified to analyze technical riding issues. Truth IS that nothing could be farther from the truth. From what I have observed over the years, it's somewhat of a miracle that about half the riders are able to stay on the road at all. And I hope we can avoid the second problem......which is people taking comments like that personally and getting all bent out of shape because I am calling "you" a moron. I didn't.......and you shouldn't. |
