Default Just so you know..

Despite my personal stance on helmet laws, and general preference not to wear one 99 % of the time, I highly recommend owning one, along with a full face shield.

I think a helmets biggest safety punch is from it's inclimate weather protection. This comes from remembering three of my worst ever rides ( not surprisingly they are also among my personal favorites )

Wandering about the lower portion of Cadillac mountain in the fog... Getting stuck in a massive seacoast thunder storm in Bar Harbor National park ( same trip ) And the torrential rains endured while showing Collector around.

Now each one is memorable, each one filled with many happy moments, but each on also containing a good amount of unnecessary danger, a helmet, in bad weather is simply in opinion anyway, good essential gear, more important in a summer storm they a rain suit..

When your vision is impaired, you are screwed, even if you can feel your way through you are a sitting duck for sudden road hazards, a wash out, high water...Just my opinion..learned from dropping the proverbial TV on my head a few times.

Good point. Other than being forced to wear a helmet as I travel in States dictating that I must wear one, a helmet is at least always with me just in case the weather changes. Short hail storm one trip; torrential downpour on others, made me glad that I did have the helmet available.

Unless you have adequate storage for these pieces of equipment or wear them all the time, this unique feature of wearing helmets is quite obvious to most who wear them. So those who don't need to be informed?

If someone can figure out how to bungee/tie all manner of other items onto a motorcycle, they can figure out how to secure one or two helmets without having to force themselves to wear them in good weather

I (almost) always wear my helmet. I have ridden many times, and many miles, without it. But (for me) realized that I just felt better wearing it...I think the difference is now I'm married, and it just means a lot to my wife that I take as good a care of myself as possible. I really love/loved riding without one. But for me, the right choice is to wear one.

I believe it should be the riders choice.

!2" x 12" bungee nets. Very versatile for securing items. I like the plastic hooked ones that come with 6 hooks. I use 4 hooks and keep the other 2 for spares cause do break on a occassion.

Yep...rain is definately a good reason to wear one. Gives you a second layer of protection beyond your normal eyewear..

Of course, avoiding this-

while not as important as protection from the rain, is another fairly good reason to wear one for some people.

Note: After googling "motorcycle accident face" this was THE ONLY picture I felt comfortable even posting. I figure dripping faces, separated jawbones, and popped eyes were a little too much for the forum. This was actually a pretty tame accident, and served well enough. The guy was wearing this:

with a full face shield...

Like I stated before, we can all "ride our ride" but let's not kid ourselves as to what happens to "face" when it contacts "hard"...lol

True story..Just now in my bedroom I tripped over the comforter, lurched forward and caught myself.. had I not ,I would have planted my temple into the corner of my dresser.. let's not kid ourselves, if we REALLY were concerned about head safety we would wear a helmet almost 24/7
