Received a call at work today fr my neighbor who informed me that my bike had been thrown over. Raced home; was relieved to see that it was pushed over (as opposed to back over with a car) with only a minor bend in the right handlebar...
Now I'm thinking of getting freeway bars...anyone bought them? I don't care for the look of them, but now I figure they're practical for protecting the bike... Suggestions? Thanks in advance, Ang |

Crash bars, freeway bars or even highway bars - whatever the name. Regardless of the aesthetics, they definitely serve a good purpose. Plenty of them around on various sites. As always and above all...ride safe.

I just added a pair of National Cycle Paladin Highway Bars (Haven't updated my Signature Picture yet). They are not as big/bulky as some of the other highway/crash bars but still do the job. At first I didn't think I'd like the look but after I installed them they really complemented the bike. I'm glad I added them not to mention the added protection of having my bike tip over.

I put crash bars on my Shadow the day I bought it, and haven't regretted it since. Of course, I haven't had my bike tip over yet, but, either way, I've been very happy that I put them on. And I, personally, like the look. A Shadow considered (by some, not by me) to be a "small" bike, and it gives the bike some visual heft. When people ask me what size it is and I tell them a 750, they ALWAYS say "Huh, I thought it was bigger than that." *lol*
I love them on mine. -MaineRider

No, there not actually the same thing. Freeway and highway bars are just bars for highway pegs and will not protect anything if the bike goes over. Never heard the term nerf bars on bikes but it sounds lke they could be refering to crash bars.
