On my 2011 Honda Shadow Aero VT750C I used new Copper "crush ring" exhaust gaskets like RKforrest said. For my 2011 bike the Honda P/N was 18291-MM5-860 (see item 3 in pic) ![]() Here's the link to the parts breakdown for MY BIKE. MUFFLER Honda VT750C Shadow Aero 750 2011 OEM Parts - Cheap Cycle Parts I bought mine Copper Gaskets at my Honda Dealer. Tip: put a very small dab of grease on the copper o-ring gasket to hold it in place while re-installing the exhast pipe. Use VERY little grease, like the equivalent of 1 drop. It worked nice for me because the copper o-rings wanted to fall out when I went to put on the exhaust pipes. It was a bit of a bitch getting the Old Coppers o-ring gaskets off too, they were smashed in there pretty good. I used a tiny screwdriver and carefully pulled the old ones out, destroying them as I did. I would reccommend changing the Copper o-ring gaskets although its even more important to change them when you are CHANGING EXHAUST pipes to a different brand as they usually want to SEAT differently up against the exhaust port than the OEM Pipes. Also, I re-Torqued the exhast bolts (Nuts actually) a few days later after riding the bike for awhile. (18ftlbs on MINE) Sounds complicated but its not, Pop out the old gaskets, put in the New ones lol... Finally, I do not know what year/make model your bike is nor am I am expert I would recommend asking your honda parts/service Guy for final confirmation. Well quick update I did the extension mod a few weeks ago and it's all been gravy since. What a difference!!! But anyway I never got a new crush gasket and I doubt there was even one in there, more like some black "caulking" like sealant. But I haven't had an issue yet. Although where my brake lever hinges on is getting some dirt and grime into it so its slightly squeaky. Aside from that aaaalllll great *knocks on wood*

They are nice huh, real easy to get used to. I couldnt imagine going back to the original postion now after having the extensions for awhile. Hope you're sure there werent crush washers in there to remove and you didnt just put one on top of the old one. Did you check real good? The old ones would have been smashed in there so flat they would not look like the news ones at all whe looking to remove them Main thng is you dont have any exhaust leaks. and if you are absolutely sure there werent gaskets in there you should be ok. |
