Default Bikes I have loved.. Old Red

Old Red here is a 1976 Sporty. Spoke wheels, riveted mechanical rear drum, chain drive, kick and electric with a single disc up front. I think I paid $2,100.00 for her around 87

She had a certain kind of appeal was cranky, moody and cold blooded

The speedo never worked but it was evident that someone somewhere in her previous life cammed her a bit, she had a lope and she liked to run at higher rpms, she was almost too fast for her brakes and chassis, but yeah when she was up and running and not out of tune, she rocked.

Plans were to paint her spray can black, even did the initial coats

but this is the bike that locked it's engine on me at 45 mph on route 28 in Auburn, alas expenses were too much and she went the way of many a bike, off in a rolling basket, waiting for someone else to bring her back to life

Since even way back then Linda has always chipped in where she could, here she is aligning fender bolt holes.

Many of my two wheeled encounters were brief but intense affairs, full of passion, drama, disappointment, hopes of reconciliation, and break ups.. ah so many iron mistresses have come and gone before I finally settled down ( or have I ? mmmm...)

That rear fender with the bead on it is beautiful.

What kind of range did you get with that bike Dave? The tank looks really small.

Well my friend I owned it in the eighties mpg were not of any concern to me back then, especially on a bike, but a little searching turned in claims of anywhere between 35 mpg to low 40's with a 2.38 gallon tank that means maybe 90 mpg max.. I would say most likely 75 before hitting reserve in the real world..
