Default The Nerve of Some People...

OK... I was taking my bike to my mechanic yesterday when something happened on the road. I'm not looking for what I did wrong or what I could've done better, I'm just here to vent about how ugly some people can be.

I came up to the first of a succession of three traffic lights at a relatively new underpass; you know, a light before the underpass, a light after the underpass and then a third light two blocks further (for those familiar with Evansville, I was on Fulton at the Lloyd). The lanes shift here, first to the right to allow for a turn lane and then back to the left, and the road surface is pretty bad. Anyway, there were seven vehicles in the right hand land and one in the left so I pulled up in the left hand lane next to a white SUV. I was ahead of the SUV driver at the light in my Hi-Vis Yellow jacket. When the light turned green we all started off. When we got to the lane shift the white SUV just kept going straight, quickly taking 50% of my lane. I swerved slightly and gave the horn a tap (I couldn't swerve too far left because there was traffic in the left turn lane). The lady in the SUV turns her head and looks at me with an ugly scowl, then flips me off, and immediately cuts her wheel hard to completely take my lane. I braked and avoided her. All this happens as we're passing through the second light, then this SUV cuts back into the right hand lane and makes a right turn at the third light. It was after she got in front of me that I noticed a decal on her back window from a major motorcycle manufacturer. Which means that she, or somebody close to her, is a biker... and she still did that to me.

Anyway, like I said, I just had to vent. All I can figure is she must have been mad at her biker and was taking it out on me. Needless to say I let go a few expletives that were not deleted.

Glad to see you made it out of the situation OK. Sadly, there is very little we can do to fight back against road-raging cagers.

As someone else said recently on these boards...We are all ants in a world full of boots.

Folks.. why be surprised.. why be unnerved it has not now nor will it ever change.. this is riding. No law will alter it, no amount of venomous dialogue between idiots and those they cut off will change it. Nope..it is what it is.. and trust me in twenty odd years of riding I have seen it all.

about three years shy of thirty, I have done the road rage thing, I have seen death, I have fallen ( not enough to convince my hard head to wear a lid ) cut off, left turned on, right turned on, had people stop dead for whatever imaginary things they saw in the road as I was behind them, even dodged a deer or two ( or three or more ). Do I get mad at stupidity on the road.. sure.. two miles down the road it means nothing as long as you get out alive

Edit... as I am sure you have also bro!

Had pretty much the same thing happen in the exact same spot. I got the finger also. They got one back and a WTF sign. Lots of people have the stickers and have never ridden a bike in there life. Most riders that I know of look out for their brethren.

Heavy truth in this statement. I'm used to it by now. There was one 3 hour period where I got cut off 3 times by different vehicles in different areas of town. I'm just used to it by now. I'm just a motorcycle ninja. Unseen and unheard. It is up to me and only me to accomplish my mission....get to point B.

same old stuff, different day. things like this happen.. regardless if you have been ridin' for 30 years or 3 days. if we all got on here and told our stories about how someone pulled out in front of us, rant about this, rant about that.. this would be a board totally about near accidents and anger towards those in automobiles. that's just ridin'.. it'd be best to not get torn up about it cause chances are it'll happen again within a short period of time. you made it out fine, alive, and unharmed. just ride on bud.
