Went out to get gas today. Pulled up on the right side of the island and saw out of order signs on them. So I tried making a u turn to get to the other side. Needless to say. I duck-walked the bike, backed up in order to get there "safely". I have to say I'm glad I got a cruiser that has a low seat height. If I was on a 600 sport, I'm sure I'd have dropped it.

Practice, practice and more practice. I live in the boonies and stop at the post office on the way home. This is a real small post office and parking lot, so when there are not cars around, I do several figure 8's in the lot for practice. The lot is on an incline so I get practice uphill and downhill.
When I leave, I make a left turn and go straight until I cross the center line and then make a tight left turn close to the center lines. This has helped me alot, along with many miles of riding. |

What size bike are you on?
My wife is a damn skilled rider, but she still lacks confidence. Therefore in the summer, she asks me to go out to empty parking lots and ride circles and figure eights. We often ride around light poles, parked cars or just lined parking spots. I do get tired from going around in circles (at least once a week) but we have both benefited greatly from the practice. |
