Default First trip to work on my bike!

So I finished the class over the weekend and went and took the written test today. I finally got to ride my bike to work. It felt so good and was so much more enjoyable then in the truck or car. Anyway I do have a question. How long should it take for the bike to warm up? It took a good 10 minutes before it was ready to go? The temp was about 40 degrees this morning. Is that normal?

Oh and does anyone else just continue to think about riding the whole time they are at work? My guess is I am not the only one.

Default 3 minutes at most

Generally by the time I put the cover in a safe place, put my helmet & gloves on & check mirrors, the bike is ready, even at 40 degrees, though I have EFI, which may make a difference.

I don't worry about warm up, I figure the ride out of the development will do that. Just start the bike and finish dressing and the go.

I've got 1 1/2 miles and 2 lights to the highway. I figure it's ready for the 25 mile run to work.

Maybe I have another problem then. It seems to only want to iddle and if I give it gas it will die. But after about 10 minutes it is ready to scoot. Maybe it is because it sat for 6 years and isn't used to being driving regularly

I want to address something you said in your first post - Does anyone else think about riding while they are at work all day long?

Ummmm - YES! I do! I love it, I should have gotten my endorsement 20 years ago.

I have a 2006 Shadow and for warming it up, I give it a couple of mins in the driveway and finish suiting up then it gets the mile or so to the highway and I am good to go for the 22 mile ride to work. It is about 35-40 degrees in the morning as well for me, this seems to do just fine.

You may be right, just ride your bike more (maybe you should change some of the fluids??? I am a noobie, so take anything technical I say with a pound of salt).

Just wanted to say welcome to the forum. I am a newbie rider myself this year. And yes, when I first got my endorsement and bike, all I thought about was when I could ride it again.

Usually I let mine run less than a minute and it's ready to go.
More like 30 seconds, then a slow ride down my bumpy driveway, about 300 yards from the highway.
Mine's an 02 with carbs and I don't have to choke it, even in cold weather (40 ish). Now ya'll making me think somethings wrong with it....
