So last night I finished doing some mods to my ride. It's a 06 VLX and I did the timing advance mod, the accelerator pump mod and put new clutch springs in it. What a difference!! I had so much fun on it today. Even going up steep hills, I would give it some throttle and away we would go. I love this bike!

I've seen several people write up what seemed like fairly simple instructions for the mods you describe. Did you find them to be as easy as they look, especially the timing mod? Also how mechanical do you consider yourself. I am fairly mechanical (no training but not afraid to get my hands dirty) but don't want to get into a position where i mess the bike up.

I'm fairly mechanically inclined, but I was also a little nervous about messing my bike up. There are two other forums that have very good step by step instructions with really good pics that I used. It really was fairly simple. I doubt that the timing mod gives you anymore power although it might. What it really did was make mine a lot more responsive and it feels like I have a bit more torque. The accelerator mod gives you a full spray of fuel throughout the throttle twist. Stock it stops spraying about half way. You can actually see the difference if you watch the spray before and after. Seems to give more passing power and it helped me a lot with going up steep inclines. If you want links to what I used just pm me. Also, the new clutch springs made a huge difference on take off. I only have about 5k miles on mine, but the springs were 7 years old and it slipped a lot.

I know where to find those "how to's", I just wanted to get an honest opinion here as those guys can be a bit touchy on the other site. |

If that's what you're looking for I would imagine it won't be long before you're thing about doing the timing mod as well. It's nice for a responsive bike with some torque to get away quick.
