Try and argue with that logic!!!!
Nah there is mistake which is easy to avoid in case we make a difference between real expenses and expected expenses

In your case if you compare using:

Famous Grouse ($26) vs. possible expense of ($50) you're gaining $24 of saving or basically profit.
But overall you're in negative $26 balance.

It's very simple

+1 for me. Riding for the sake of riding eats up the miles saved, and the accessories, gear, etc will eventually work their way up to a car range. I also only have 9 months or so of the year that the bike is even an option. So it's extra insurance and registration fees every year because I have to keep and maintain the car as well.

Not the cost saver I thought, but a great and very cheap hobby. A perk of riding that I didn't expect is that I got to be a much better driver overall. Taking time to re-familiarize with the rules of the road and feeling more vulnerable on it has improved my road behavior in big ways, regardless of operating a bike, car, truck, etc. I understand why a lot of countries have license classes now.

^^^ I agree . . . I am a much better driver when in my car because of riding a motorcycle. I watch other driver's heads to see where they are looking (or not looking) and I've learned to anticipate what other drivers might do (or not do) and I drive my car (and motorcycle) as if I'm invisible to other drivers.

There were lots of motorcycles out and about on Wednesday and Thursday morning. By Thursday afternoon/evening, the snow was falling here in Minnesota and the temperature had dropped almost 30 degrees. Looks like riding season is over with for now.

I have 2 bikes. The 96 Shadow VT1100 cost me $300 to buy and another $200 to get it running. The 86 cost me a trade of a Ford 4X4 that got about 10 MPG on a good day, downhill. The insurance on the bikes costs about $200 a year. The insurance on the truck was a lot more than that. I do spend more on gas than I need to, but it is cheaper than therapy. The ride to work helped me forget about how miserable I would be when I get there. The ride home helps me forget how miserable I had been all day waiting for the ride home. On weekends, the rides help me forget about all the other crap in my life.

I am now unemployed, but am hopefull of starting another job in the next week or so. That job is 30 miles one way, so the bike will same me tremendously on gas. The length of the ride will help even more on the therapy too.

The purchases of the bikes had nothing to do with savings for me. It was really more to irritate my wife, but she won't ride with me anyway. The savings was just a bonus. Since I also have another pick-up, the weather doesn't cause any real issue.

If you say you're saving money riding the bike, then you're not doing enough mods!

Lets see, bike gets 40MPG or so, Jeep gets 15 on a good day. BUT, when I ride the bike I tend to take the senic route home. My fuel bill tends to be pretty even Jeep vs Bike. Mainly do to House to work is 30 miles in the Jeep and 50-100 on the bike.

See, I think there is a fundamental difference in thinking here. To me, the bike is a means to save money. I seriously couldn't care less if it is pretty or chromed or fancy. It has a job to do. Get me to work and back and allow me to have fun along the way. I know I may catch hell over the over-generalization of this statement but I feel that guys tend to put a LOT more emphasis on how their ride looks than girls do. I know this is not ALWAYS the case but as a general rule it appears to be true. And this applies across the spectrum of vehicles, whether it be cars, bikes, trucks etc. Look at any given overly customized vehicle and the odds are it is a guy behind the wheel. I am not talking about taking pride in what you own by keeping it presentable, but rather in the super modification arena.

KelKel, as long as you are riding, who cares. Enjoy the ride, save fuel, save money on lunch. It's a win, win situation. I take my bike when ever I can.
