One last word on the wave and Harleys and I'm out of this thread.
I.went in a memorial run with my father in law that was comprised of like 50 Harleys, a few metric cruisers, one honda cbx i-6 (i giggled when I saw it) and me on my tl1000s. It was a gorgeous day and there were tons of bikes out. One rider in particular stands out in my mind because as he was coming at us in the opposite lane he waved at all the Harleys in front of me, withdrew his hand while passing me on my crotch rocket, then extended his hand to all the Harley riders behind me. What a prick. |

After reading 10 pages I can see where it gets easy to forget the temperament of the original post. This is the part I remember the most: "so I told him " hey pal ya didn't pay your dues (ride in the cold like the rest of us) so step away from MY BIKE and have your picture taken next to your car..." I made sure NOT to make a big deal about this ,because it's about the kids not my ego...
My wife says " let it go" LOL and she's right cause today I can now laugh about it.. Doesn't sound to me like Officer Friendly made a big deal about it. He had the stones to actually go up to the guy and have his say. He came here afterwards to vent a bit... then admitted he had already gotten over it and "could laugh about it". It's nice to see so many sanctimonious folks around here. I see many that grumble and talk here, but how many would actually go up to someone and say something? Its been educational for me to read in this thread that people who make over a certain amount of money, or for some reason don't ride their motorcycles everywhere every day are considered "posers" and shouldn't be allowed to have a bike, wear leather, or be around others who ride. Have any of you with those beliefs actually went up to one of these "posers" and told them to get their white tennis shoes away from "real" bikers or do you just sit there and talk crap with your friends and hope no one hears you? Do a cold weather ride sometime and see how you feel about someone who didn't try to hop in the photo and act like he/she did. Might as well dig around here on this site and find a picture of someone riding in the snow. Follow Canyons thread... and others... you'll find some pics. Cut the pictures out and put them under your name, no one will care.

Squidchief,
I'm trying to understand from your post whether you share & admire those beliefs, or simply admire the "general baldness" of the OF? Because, living in NYC, I tell you, I've yet to meet a truly "friendly" officer, I feel the general baldness comes with the badge, mainly... One on one, somewhere in the jungle we'd get an entirely different perspective on some ballsy officers' personalities... [/QUOTE] but how many would actually go up to someone and say something? One on one, somewhere in the jungle we'd get an entirely different perspective on some ballsy officers' personalities... Harpomatic, I have absolutely no negative bias against peace officers and yes, I really do respect the fact that he went up and said something to the dude. Having ridden a couple of below freezing charity runs, I can see his point... and agree with it... about folks 'earning" the right afterwards. I ran across a number of NYC guys from the various boroughs during my career and the one thing I found common in many of them was their bluntness and willingness to say whatever they felt needed saying, whether I agreed with them or not. I respect that in people. Never quite understood the need for folks to get on their computer and type away to a group of unknown individuals to "vent"... but to each his own. At times it does make for some entertaining reading. If you took the fact that OF is/was a peace officer out of the equation, what would you feel about his move then?

Man, I'm with you on the general admiration of willingness to say whatever one may need saying. If we take the "officer" out of the equation, I just feel it's not ...friendly. Of course, none of us is obligated to actually be "friendly", but I wish more of us tried a bit harder at it. It would make for a genuinely more peaceful world.
