Um, Not this time Dave ! I normally agree with you point of view. Without being there myself, it's a difficult call to make. Things like age or personal injury, may have come into play. I myself have shown up in a car to an event like this, However, I am well known by the group. They all know that my arthritis does not play well with the cold weather. They also know that in years now gone forever, I would ride EVERY DAY, Even if it snowed. I'm afraid that old age is creeping in. Nothing I can do to stop it. Just take it as it comes. Do what I can, and be happy with that. As far as Being with the Riders, and the bikes, YES, that's what I am most comfortable with. I like being with my own type of people. No matter How I got there, that's where you would normally find me. Sorry boys, I just can't kick a fellow for being with the people that make him happy. Dom

I can't kick a fellow for hanging with people who make him happy either Dom, and I am not kicking him for that at all.. I am kicking him for blatantly playing the part of someone who rode in when he did not.. that's all. I understand maladies.. suffer from many myself.. I understand hating cold and rain.. I sure do, but as stated before I am not going to run around in gear and take photo ops for kids as if I rode in when it is a lie..but hey.. that's me |

I think a lot of this is coming down to whether someone feels someone should have to "pay dues". For the record, I don't care what the dude was wearing. I've seen people, more than once; get out of a vehicle dressed to the nines in black, vest, chaps, boots, do-rag etc. It's their fashion statement, and who am I to comment on taste.....
One of the most physically demanding things I've done recently was a 3.6 mile race UP Squaw Valley ski resort. There was a 2000' altitude increase in the 3 miles. I put a lot of time training for it and finished pretty high in my age group. After the awards ceremony there was a photo op. I wouldn't of wanted to see anyone who either didn't assist in putting on the event or compete in the event be part of the photos. The wouldn’t of EARNED their right! Two years ago I did a couple of toy runs during the winter holiday season. The last one was for the old folks at the local rest home. It was 18 degrees that day. My son made it on the back of my bike from home to the start of the run, then opted to ride with a friend of mine in his nice warm truck... my son is the smart one in the family!!!... After the ride was over and the gifts were handed out someone wanted to take a photo of all the riders. My friend with the truck stood off to the side with me watching the show, and eyeballing a couple of the women. My son asked if he should go up and be part of the picture, I said "no". A couple of the guys in the group called for him to go over and be part of the picture, stand in for me or something like that. Thing is, as I look at it, you can do like HondaGuy if that's your way, and that's great... BUT... if you do choose to go the frozen bike run route, I feel you need to either freeze your butt off or stay away from the grip-and-grins. Acting like you did something, pretending to of accomplished something that you didn't, to me, is the definition of “poser". it has absolutely nothing to do with your apparel. My .02 anyway.

Good grief!
So the poor bugger doesn't like riding in the cold, at least he showed up with a gift for the kids who wouldn't have cared about any of this crap. If you are going to throw names like "poser" around to another biker, maybe you should remember a lot of our members are only seasonal bikers themselves.

If the guy is a seasonal biker... that' fine, like you said, many are... then why even bother showing up at this event? If he wants to provide a gift to charity, there are plenty of other ways. As HondaGuy said, there are plenty of other ways to give that don't involve freezing ones butt off.

Could have come on a reindeer or a go cart for all that I care on his mode of transport. At least he made the effort to come to the event,
