There's one spot near the end of my commute where everybody knows the lane is going to end. Most cars using the right lane are right turners for the superslab entrances or a business park, but if there's a long line of cars in the left (thru) lane, I'll run the right lane. With the bike's size and acceleration, merging left is a non-issue.

But this morning was different. I'm in no hurry. I'm the second car in the left lane at the last light before the merge. I notice a shiny new Honda CRV in the right lane just ahead of me. Looked like right off the showroom floor. So the light changes, and this lady almost immediately comes on over. I mean, she had to know I was there, we were next to each other at the light. Turn signal? Of course not. I mean, she was coming into the space that I already occupied, expecting, I suppose, that I'd just back off.

I'm not that nice. I still had half a lane, so I shot up beside her and gave her a rather emphatic gesture as to my displeasure. She got the message.

I mean...WTF people? I can understand not being seen, but that's not what happened. This lady is lucky she doesn't have a size 10.5 bootprint on her nice new car.

(Just for the safety-minded...I did have an "out" and plenty of room to stay out of her way or avoid her if necessary. I'm crazy, but not stoopid.)
I'm confused; By your post it seems as though you were in your car, not on your bike. You must have very long and articulated legs if you planned on leaving a size 10.5 footprint on the ladies fender.

Using projectiles is quite frankly one of the most immature and irresponsible retaliatory methods of getting another driver's attention. Does one ever think that it is entirely possible that one of those nuts, bolts, marbles, etc just might bounce off of or over the intended target and damage another unsuspecting innocent driver ... or God forbid rider, say behind them?? Or maybe get kicked up later by another vehicle into yet another "victim". Jesus people, use your d^mn head! Ride safe and learn to be more vigilant by being the better person. God this thread is failing. :screwy:

I’ve been there but reacting with anger never solves anything and depending on who you’re dealing with just might make it worse. Maybe she just found out………(insert one of life’s many tribulations here)…... Should we all be more attentive, sure but we’ve all had the “I can’t believe I just did that” moment and thought that could have been a lot worse. There was a time in this country that people assumed the best in others and not the worst.

That form of behavior has to be the most reprehensible act of irresponsibility ever enacted upon an innocent motorist. Imagine if your wife/ girlfriend or significant other is carrying your child to the the outlet Mall was whacked in the face by one of these projectiles. Share that smugness pal I'm sure you'll justify it you ******* idiot.

I usually back off, catch their license plate, and write them up in either "missed connections" or "rants & raves" on Craigslist.

I have to agree with this. O.P. post is confusing. Did you ever really try to boot a moving vehicle? You would be the one with damage if you did more then likely. You are also assuming that she saw you and that is not the best way to look at it. Getting angry while riding and then trying to retaliate is not wise at all. 3,000 lb vehicle versus a few hundred pounds of bike is a no win situation. As far as throwing projectiles that is definitely the most immature, stupid and dangerous thing to do and I wouldn't hesitate to call the police on someone that did it.

This is what I'm saying.

Gentleman,

Put the bike away for the season yesterday morn...a sad day for sure. Anyway,in the afternoon was in the cage driving the 3-lane highway in the middle lane. As I am passing an on ramp from the right, a car and its rider decides that rather than staying behind the truck in the merging third lane and waiting to pull on over after speeding up, just merge into my lane, no signal and right where I am, no looking, no nothing!!! If I didn't move over to the passing lane, we would have both been road kill! I laid on the horn and gave the stupid woman the finger for sure. It is not because I am unkind or mean or stupid. The problem is that you can die with that kind of inattentive driving and maybe by pointing out to some idiot that they came close to causing a wreck will make them a little more responsible next time. Fortunately for me, I do drive defensively and knew I had an out in the first lane but what if I hadn't.

Of course, she didn't yield to the horn, go back in her own lane, look at me, or acknowledge me...just drove off with her stinking "who cares" attitude. Maybe the next time, she won't be so lucky.
