reworked the speaker and microphone placement. Still not happy with clarity at highway speeds. thinking about returning them and seeing if that helps...

This is a helpful thread. I've been through two intercom systems (Interphone being the latest) and I'm about to give up - I haven't found any that are loud enough to be useful (even with a ff helmet). I might look into the Uclears if you have success with them.

Have you tried the ScalaRider units? This was my biggest concern because I always wear earplugs, but the Scalas proved to be more than adequate in sound volume.

I don't like them for music and we don't get into deep conversations but they're great for accepting phone calls (I usually pull over when I get call but don't have to remove my helmet to keep talking), work really well with comments, ("did you see that", "where should we go for lunch", "there's a truck in your blind spot" ...) and I can get turn by turn directions from my droid.

They do need pretty close to line of site but can go a good 1/2 mile on the highway. The one time we did lose each other I just called him. One day we road to Philly for a sandwich and ended up spending about 10 solid hours on our bikes. These were great just for a little chatting and telling some jokes.

The battery life seems to be longer then they claim as we've had them working for 12 hours plus. You get more static when the batteries are low but they still worked.

I think they're great for the price.

We also ordered from Amazon.

I haven't - I had heard/read a few people say they weren't all that loud, but maybe I should give them a shot too ... just need to pick them up from somewhere that will let me return them if they don't work out. I bought the Interphones used, so unfortunately I don't have that option.

Having just done 800 miles on my scalarider G9's the past few days, and unfortunately alot of it being super slab at 90mph. I held conversations with the wife the whole time doing 90 with a full face. Of course I do have a big ole shield that helps block the wind. I am kinda deaf from playing in a death metal band for years and still could hear fine. Some people have taken the scala's and cut off the earsets and just wired in ear buds straight into the helmet and said that helps a ton with music quality and audio too if need be. I haven't felt the need to do so as I am pleased with the quality out the box and recommend my friends to get em. My wife and I BS all day long like were sitting in a quite room going down the road.

I have put a good 5-6k on these headsets in all sorts of conditions and am very pleased with them.

I agree with the comments on the Scala. We have a set and I have no problem with the sound level. I wear custom fit earplugs and find the volume is plenty loud.

We own a pair of scala G4 and we've found max range is only about 3 blocks. They don't work all that well up close either. Raising the antenna helps a bit.

That stinks. I have the G9 and get really good range. It also works fine close up as my wife and I use them all the time on the same bike. I had to turn off the find a friend thing though. I would be riding and the phone would ring and it was some guy a quarter mile away trying to sync with a buddy half the time. Fun stuff.
