Default 1st bike 1st bam

1st bike 2001 shadow had it two weeks . So I'am sitting at a red light. Light turns green. I'am in first ,just finished letting out the clutch and BAM ! I get hit from behind.I.am not hurt but the fender is hitting the rear wheel and the turnning singnal bar is bent. Talked to insurance agent . He says to claim on my insurance . The other guys insurance may not be any good. If i do that I would have to pay my deductable and I think Iwould have the claim against me.I would think my insurance would go up too. What do you think .

You got hit.
You were not at fault.
It goes on the other guys insurance.

If you involve your insurance it is a service they provide for you and they will get everything from the other guys insurance. You would pay your deductible up front and get reimbursed if the other insurance comes thru. Advantage: Your ins agent is on your side.

Glad it wasn't any worse! Let the other guy pay! He hit you! Check the wheel and the frame!

What they said... Add a police report. Make SURE you are really OK. An added benefit of going through your company is that many of them have VERY aggressive legal departments to handle subrogated claims. They will get your money and theirs if you are patient.

I was involved in a hit and run by a drunk driver (as well as 4 other vehicles) about 5 years ago. I had to place the claim through my insurance while the police tracked down the douche who hit me (someone got the plate as he drove off). I paid my deductible and then my insurance (Geico) went after him for reimbursement. It took about 2 months before I got my money but I had a working car in the meantime.

If you are not at fault, you should not have an increase or any mark against you regardless of whether or not it's claimed through your insurance. I know this because my wife is a magnet for random objects on the highway. In a year period she hit an air compressor that fell off a truck which gutted her car and had road debris rip off her mirror and tear up the side of her car.

Insurance paid for both but since they weren't her fault we saw no increase in premiums.

If you make the claim with your insurance make sure you provide your insurance company with the other guys insurance info and have them seek a reimbursement of your deductible.

This sounds fishy to me The person behind is always responsible for the impact, you should always drive within stopping distance of the vehicle in front..Your insurance agent could be dodgy, if he hasn't registered your insurance he would not want you to claim..or if the other driver is a valued customer of his he may be trying to shift the blame to keep future business..I may be barking up the wrong tree..but next year I would change my insurance agent because that is just bad advice..

John.

The thought had crossed my mind, but a wise man gives his wife the benefit of the doubt.
