After 17 years my first leather flight jacket developed a personality of it's own that refused to be removed despite dry cleaning and lysol spray & outdoor airing. The wife said it had to go.
My new one came from leatherup.com and is of heavier leather in all the right spots. I bought a medium, then lost 30lbs, so now I can layer clothing under it and keep warm, which is important when you get down to skin and bones only.

got that for 20 bucks. Seriously. From cycle gear on clearance. Not bad and not a light leather either. No clue on what type of leather but hey it does its job! Sent from my iPhone using Motorcycle.com Free App

I go with mesh stuff and hit the local shop for their clearance racks.
www.proriderleather.com "Premium Quality, Discounted Prices" I can't provide an exact example but for your decision making on what makes a good jacket, my riding jacket criteria is: * 3 season (spring/winter/fall) so removable liner and enough material to break wind and be toasty for the winter. * Has shoulder, elbow, and ideally back padding. * Has reflective piping or material. It can be tough to find the last one in an all leather so for the right price I'd settle without reflective material and just add my own tape and what not to it. I've given up on having an all season jacket to cover those 90 and humid days as well. I opted for a summer only jacket that's breathable holy mesh for those. Light on the protection, but better than nothing and I don't get nearly as fatigued and distracted so it gets points for hopefully avoiding the need to use it. |

If money is no object, get a Vanson leather jacket. Made in the USA!
I got a $450 jacket for half price. It's so well made I will probably never need to replace it...

* Has shoulder, elbow, and ideally back padding. * Has reflective piping or material. First one also includes vents to let air flow in on warmer days. These + extended sleeves are on pretty much every motorcycle jacket. I don't know what flight jackets have but I don't think they would do much for impact or keeping rain out of the armpits... just save some road rash. |
