I think you are right. I have experienced "surprise" speed bumps and have always accelerated on the edge of the upside them to lighten the front end. They taught us that going over obstacles in the ERC 25 years ago riding over 2X4s. Shift the weight off the front end acceleration at the leading edge, if surprised by a obstacle. Do not brake into it and put the bikes weight on the front end. I have found more often than not acceleration has saved my ass before braking.

If you look at the slow motion video his front end dives ever so slightly on the leading edge indicating he was braking hard into the bump.

Hehe, 2x4's ... I remember that! And to add, also observe the front wheel never leaves the ground either which lends more fact to front braking.

Absolutely he grabbed that front brake. Pretty hard too.

I hate speedbumps. One time this rich neighborhood I was in had black speed bumps. Seriously?! I was in my cage fortunately but everything hit the roof! I was so mad.
