Hello
can someone tell me the difference between crash bars, engine bars, or highway bars? Which would be the best for a 97 shadow spirit 1100c? Best place to buy them? All help appreciated!

mike there all the same thing,basicly, its a bar the extends to side of bike to help protect it when you drop it, there are different styles and manufactures out there, so have to figure out which one you like, and go from there there, look at some pics of them mounted on bike and see which one you like and how much $$$$ you wana pay

Nice bike and the BEST color....Had one back in the day..Sold it to a Swede who wanted a Harley but they were priced out of his range so he made an offer on the street and a few days later I took it. He shipped it to Sweden

That blue/Green color was the best.

You might check the classified section on this forum, ebay, your local Honda dealer or google! It will bring up all kinds of suppliers!

While many people use the terms universally, they are all different. Crash bars are the large loops that extend the farthest out to each side of the motorcycle. Intended to protect the rider/motorcycle in the event of a crash, at speed they will often just fold up. Riders will often mount lights/horns/foot pegs on them.

Engine bars are usually closer to the engine and are meant to protect just the sidecases of the engine. There is normally not enough room on engine bars to mount farkle.

Highway bars are just forward mounted footpegs or "highway pegs". This allows you to stretch out your legs on the highway. Do not confuse these with "forward controls".

I put on this MC Enterprises crash bar on my 2005 mainly for protection in parking tip-overs.
I think the bike looks better without it, but it has worked the one time I needed it to.
It's a one piece bar.
