Only at lights, slowly, in situations where there's plenty of room and no space for lane changers.
I'd rather be at the front and first off the line than in the middle of a pack of impatient cars. I suppose someone could open their door, but when I'm slowly creeping towards the front it wouldn't do much damage. Better than being blocked in on all sides when a distracted driver decides they need to turn and tries to cut across 2 lanes when the light changes. (edited to mention: I'm in Hollywood, so it's legal, and you'll spend most of the day moving 10 feet at a time) |

I have done it in slow traffic, maybe 10 mph or so. I only go about 5 mph faster. Once, I was stuck in 3 mph traffic but was unable to do it due to the lanes being too narrow. Construction forced the narrow lanes. Once lanes opened up, I lane split until traffic was moving at 30+ mph then I just blended in and resumed the 70mph traffic. This was at the 15/215 interchange in Devore, there was some rodeo happening at Glenn Helen and drivers just HAD to watch from the moving freeway.

No, and wouldn't if I could.
It violates Menhir's Riding Safety Code 45.6. And I quote...(ahem)... Position my motorcycle where people expect to see a car because, if the blind, distracted SOB's are paying any attention at all, I want to be where they're looking.

In another life, when I was younger, I'd do it on my CBR1000RR. It didn't matter to me where, when or how fast the other traffic was going. If they were going slower than me, I would split them.
Now, with the 9, I've only done it once. I was coming into Chico on HWY99 and it was grid-locked, everybody was stopped. So, I slipped through the middle at about 10-15MPH until things started moving again.
