Yeah, we can always discuss Honda vs Harley . . .[/QUOTE]

Seems to me an actual discusion about riding is much less HO HUMM. Than any discusion about which brand or color the next "whatever" should be. I'd much rather discuss things that help make each ride end in a smile. I get tired of reading about what to do to make someone look cool while doing that ride, or feel cool cause I got the latest greatest technology in my parts or supplies. Fact is, if you change the oil regularly and use the correct grade and weight, brand or dyno vs synth, will never matter.

I've lived in LA all of my life, and have done most of my riding for the last 25 years commuting in heavy traffic.

Riding a motorcycle gives me access to carpool lanes and I use them as well, but they are often as jammed up as the other lanes.

There are sensible ways to do it, many split at higher speeds. I choose not to.
I am often overtaken by faster riders when lane splitting. I wave them past.

Last week I was overtaken by 2 CHP bikes while I was lane splitting between the carpool lane and the #1 lane.(on the double yellow....a no-no)
I waved them past.
They waved back.
I followed them for the rest of my ride up the 405 towards Santa Monica to work.
Nothing like having a police escort breaking the trail for you. Lol.
It's happened quite a few times over the years, too. They always wave or give me a thumbs up.
I probably have more miles in between lanes than some of you have ridden at all.
Stay safe out there.
+1.
California is the best state in the US to be a biker. None better.

Don't Harley riders need to split lanes in hotter weather due to air cooling vs water cooling? I've heard of fans used to cool the 'jugs' but they may not be so effective...

You obviously have never riden a bike in California.. If the taxes and fees don't scare you away from riding or driving. Remember this is the place where if I drive without a liscence I get a ticket and towed. IF an illegal alien does the same they get to drive away. No speaka de english, is the new "get out if jail free card". Where nearly ALL aftermarket parts are illegal? I guess you like all that smog crap on you motors, thank California for that. All that foriegn oil, we use? Yep, Califiornia the place with a LAKE of oil in downtown LA, but it is almost against the law to pump any from the ground... Where gas cost 30-50 cents a gallon more, because we have to have SPECIAL fuel.

Yeah, California is great for riding as long as the weather is the only parameter used to determine this. The fact that yo can ride 365 days a year does kinda make up for the politics.

No lane splitting for me. For one thing, there's no need for it here. I rarely get in any kind of traffic jam!

Had done it two times to avoid accident. And will do again if I'll need to.

But just to move faster? - NO!
