Found a 84 crash/highway bar for my bike today on ebay. Bought it and paypaled it. Now I am waiting to get it. Once i do, ill clean it up and put it on and post pics!

Anyone who has pout one on, any tips or things to watch out for?

Well done, as you know they are very hard to find. I also got mine on EBay a year or so ago, bundled in with a bunch of extra parts.

I installed a couple of cheap pegs (need to find nicer ones). Really nice to stretch your legs out on the road.

I think you will like them.

i added some to my VLX and all i can add is just be careful when not to pinch any wires. Also pay attention to any springs or anything else you have to remove when mounting them. I also had to adjust my rear brake pedal spring (probably not the most technical way to say it) when i mounted mine to the pedal because for some reason my brakes didn't trigger the light after mounting the bars. I now go through a thorough check of things after adding anything, even if on the surface you wouldn't think it would be effected.

OK, so I am trying to install them, but I cant get the front thru bolt loose. I dont need to remove it, just need to move it enough to slide one of the ends of the crash bars onto the bolt. I can barely turn the thru bolt! I got the nut off the threads, but its the bolt i cant slide...

Should I apply a little heat to expand the metal? I am worried about some of the plastic. I taped on the free end but it sounds very solid! I imagine its rusted inside somehow...

any advice would be great!

The first picture is off the end I need to slide out about a qtr inch to make room for the bar to slide onto it.

The 2nd picture is of the end with the nut and threads that the other half of the crash bar slides onto.

I can turn the bolt using a persuader bar on the socket wrench but just barely.

This is the part of the left side of the crash bars that needs to slide onto the end of the thru bolt. Which is why I am trying to move it. Not REmove it, just slide it a bit.

As best I can tell from the Clymer manual it slides out.

I have been watching for any conflicts but havent noticed any yet, keep in mind that I have not been able to mount the left side yet cuz of the previously discussed thru bolt problem, and the right side is only VERY loosely mounted.....

I can see how they might interfere with other stuff tho! I will keep an eye out for interferences...thanks!
