That's one thing about being 5'9" and 170lbs. I only look big on a Honda Trail 50. ...

I'm 6'2", and put a set of these 3" forward controls on my Sabre.

Keep in mind having forward controls may preclude having crash bars if it matters to you.

Thanks again all. I've ordered a set of 3" forward controls as suggested. I got them on ebay for about $40 delivered to Oz. I guess that means no crash bars. Next issue, the seat!

i am 6' 4" 310 pounds i ride my spirit and i love it i went with crash bars to fill the front end out and added some highway pegs and it rides fine to me

Check out this YouTube video of some forward controls. From your description, this seems like about the same situation as yours.

Don't pay much attention to what others tell you to do with YOUR bike. If you like it, then it's all good. Not all of us can afford to use our bike as a public entertainment venue.
